Want something big & lean

I was "dry firing" my FFFBM the other day and came to the realization that as a chopper it'll be great but as anything else it'll be too much to handle for my scrawny 6-foot frame.

Besides the ZT line, what's out there on the big and light side? Or do I have to save my pennies for a ZTBM?

Oh yeah, with all due respect to Jerry, I hate CBT. So a CGFBM is out.

Sounds like a ZTBM would be a home run. I think I would prefer a straight handle myself. It is considerably "faster" [edited: ...faster than the FBM or FFBM]. Not that a SHBM will save you any money lol.

Someone recently posted a modded CGFBM with a full height grind and corrugations eliminated...SWEET mod.

Hm...maybe an Ice Mistress...CGFBM full height grind and high polished. I could live with that.

How about the Ergo line, have you handled anything there. I have a SH-E that is about right.

ZTBM or terror monkey BM would be the way to go. Unfortunately they are few and far in between. The ZTBM is a fast handling super sharp blade with a clip point which allows it to be a much better penetrator than most other big blades. The satins also all came with a razor sharp convex edge (zero edge).

The BIBB might be an option, if you can find one around.

Or you can spring for a custom:

another vote for the ZTBM or Terror Monkey...

But the regular BM-e is way lighter/faster than the one you currently have, and pretty easy to find right now. I like mine a lot, chops decently well and is not so heavy that I don't want to carry it.

I know it is amazing how cheap BM-E's are right now. No one wants them. Too bad since they are nice knives. much lighter than all the FBM's and the SHBM as well.

I just got a ZTBM and gave it a whirl.

It's light and it feels nice in my hand but after some chopping it left me with a large broken blister on top of an ugly bruise on my pinky.

After that, I did the only logical thing, I bought a user EU-17 Magnum. It was not cheap but it's handle won't destroy my pinky and it's already a user so I'll beat on it.

Yeah. Ergo's tend to bite the pinky more. The SHBM bites the pinky while chopping too. That's why I would be more inclined toward a modded FBM with mag handles....it's comfortable enough to go the extra yard imo. That get's rid of the corrugations and lightens it up but it will still be a brute by comparison.

Something light, fast and capable but NOT INFI is the Battle Rat or Rat Mastiff. Both are great and worthy alternatives. Very comfortable handles too.

This pic was taken last Winter, now that he's even more salty I'll post an updated pic.

In case any Hogs are interested in an exceptional Belgian Malinois here is the kennel that I got him from:

If you are a Hog, and have any questions about exceptional working dogs, I'll do my best to steer you in the right direction.

That's one hell of a good-lookin' pup. Unfortunately our ol' gal Kenya took my heart with her when she passed in Dec '06. It'll be some time before I'll be able to bring a new dog into the family.

Another non-INFI option: The Scrap Yard Dog Father. Not sure if you'd say it was lean but compared to the FFBM's it is pretty light and quick. My favorite chopper thus far.

I actually had a SYCO DF that I sold after using it for a few weekends. End story is that Resiprene and I don't get along. <shrug>

You mean something like this ;)

.210 Full Flat Ground with distal taper. Weights abouts the same or slightly less than my .250 BM-E.

That's the one Ban! Thanks for posting it here. That thing is a beauty.

BlueJaunte, sorry to hear about your buddy passing away. I have a couple dogs and they are great companions. With that being so recent I could understand wanting to take some time but hopefully someday you will cross paths with another pup who you just know belongs in the family
