How does one go about this?

My son was born Aug 20, 2009. Was thinking how cool it'd be to buy a Sebenza with that same date and give to him once a few years older. At first I would only let him use on fishing and camping trips. As he gets older he will be able to have in unsupervised situations.

But what would be best way to find one with that birthdate?

Well your lucky in that 8/20/09 was a Thursday (some people ask this only to find of that date was a weekend). Other than looking at every single knife listed for sale till you find one your best bet would be to become a gold member and post a WTB in your sig line (you don't have to be a gold member to post a WTB but you do in order to list it in your signature).

Listing it in your sig drastically increases your chances as technically every single post you make will also be a WTB add. Then just hang out and chat.

Finding a specific year makes it hard, just looking for one from August 20'th would be much more realistic.

Awesome, thanks so much for your help.

The year would be important if I were to buy now or anytime soon. If I decide to wait until he is older to buy, or cant find what looking for exactly, then I can look for just date. I just think would be could for it to match his birthday. But since he is 4 not in a huge rush but would buy if found it.

Thanks!

Conversely, the longer you wait, the more vintage and expensive the CRK.

You could wait for the year you decide to give it to him and then get one with his bday the year he gets the knife. CRK might help you out. Even though the present would be a little late it would be cool. It would be a gift he would never forget and hopefully always have to both use and admire.

I'm on exactly this same mission (date grail).

You'll need to keep an eye out here, maybe eBay, and other enthusiasts forums. Just keep with it and verify the date of every CRK for sale that you can; you'll never know when it'll pop up. The "want to buy" thread in your sig can't hurt either.

One thing I will suggest; buy when you see that date, regardless of year. That way you'll have at least 1 in hand. You can resale them as you work your way closer to the target year.

I wish you luck in your search.

Edit: Also keep an eye on the "want to trade" subforum too.

You don't have to explain it to me man, I totally get it, I'd love to have one born on 4/2/12 (my sons b-day), after I hand delivered him (literally, the dr stood in the back of the room in case of emergency but it was out birth plan it would just be my wife and I doing all the work) and mom got settled in I actually went to my local knife store and bought me a new knife later that day. Not the same as being made that day, but still pretty cool I think.

Reference this thread that was previously started for assistance in finding specific birth dates.
It hasn't been updated for some time but is worth checking out.
