Want To Find The Name Of A Survivalist

I was talking to my brother about certain survivalist-type adventurers, and mentioned to him of a man, whose name I have since forgotten, that was a sea or ocean going island-hopper.
He was a rower (if memory serves me) of a canoe or kayak, and had a kind of moniker, like "Kayak Dan" or something. He was fond of disposable lighters, and amassed them when he could.
This is about what I remember. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Yes, billym; it was an interesting story. This guy basically abandoned his life, and I assume worldly goods, and just left. It's just starting to grate me a little, as his name is right there in my mind, but internet searches come up short. I hope someone remembers whom I am talking about.
