Want to get a Manix 2, but only one problem...

I've always wanted to pick up a Manix 2 but that lanyard tube has always stopped me. I feel as if there should be another screw by the lanyard tube.

Does anyone have any issues with their Manix 2's regarding the lanyard tube/lack of another screw?

I saw somewhere (here maybe) that someone put a Chicago screw through the lanyard hole to provide some extra strength. Though I don't believe it's necessary, it surely can't hurt since I don't use lanyards.

It is flared out and acts the same way as a screw. I would not worry about it.

If you want the extra screw get the lightweight one with bd1

Get yourself one or more 1/2" 2-56 screws from the hardware store and do this:

I add a bracing screw to every new Manix 2 I get. I did the first one after I goobered up the G-10 around the lanyard tube on my serrated M2 when I took it apart to skeletonize the liners. Even one screw makes a huge difference.

I also put an aluminum Chicago screw thru the lanyard hole, but it wasn't really needed.

It's not just a just a lanyard tube. It's actually structural and is basically a huge standoff with a hole through it. Compare it's inside and outside diameter....

It's actually more rigid than most of my other pillar constructed folders.

Was that mod really necessary? Ingenious, but really?

What does necessity have to do with any of this? :D

Actually in my particular case it was because I buggered up the G10 on the outer edges of the scales and the knife was loose. With a little tension on the liners (one screw is plenty, three is overkill for the sake of the photo) the lanyard tube is under slight compression and won't move. It was pretty loose before I added the screw.

Interesting. I honestly never noticed. I have used my CTS-XHP for all kinds of dirty work and it is still very sturdy at the butt end. I like Elkins idea. That is awesome. I would even add a lanyard around the clip screws, it would be far enough away from the blade to not be an issue.

Thanks guys. It's nice to know that if the handles ever loosen there is a way to fix it.

I've taken a couple Manix 2s apart for various projects. The lanyard tube got a little loose so I flared them out again for a tight fit. The modified knives have been sturdy and I haven't noticed any permanent issues so if you don't intend to ever take the knife apart, you can be doubly sure that it will be just fine.
