Want to get a ZT for my 3rd knife. 801, 562, 452cf or other?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought my first two knives, a benchmade 940-1 and spyderco paramilitary 2. My goal is to get a well rounded collection of high quality knives that I can rotate through. I prefer longer blades with 3.2 being as short as I would go. I also prefer sleek knives in general. I work in an office so the knife must be able to fit reasonably within my pocket, and should not be massively uncomfortable while I'm sitting. I figure that getting a zero tolerance for my third knife would be a good way to have a well rounded and widely representative collection. After looking at their selection, I like the 801, 452cf, and 562(I also enjoy the 560 but I've read that the 562 is simply a superior design). What are your opinions on how these knives compare? Which do you think would be the best addition to my other two? Do you think there is another knife outside of zero tolerance that would be a better purchase for me? Thank you so much for your input. I'm sure you'll all have interesting things to say!

Considering the other two knives you already have, I'd pick the 0562. It looks like it'd fill the gap between your other knives with the blade shape and grind.

The only problem with the 452 is the blade length. It might be too much for using in an office. Meaning it looks a little intimidating pulled out and deployed.

On the other hand, its my favorite folder.

You all bring up really good points that have crossed my mind. The 452cf is BEAUTIFUL and sleek and everything I like, right up my ally. However, I worry that it might be to close to my 940-1. The 562 is totally different so I feel like it would be a great addition that will add a lot to the collection, but I'm worried that it might just be TOO big and I will find myself not wanting to use it. The 801 has somewhat sleek aspects to it as well but what really made me want it is this review: http://www.everydaycommentary.com/2014/05/zero-tolerance-zt0801-review.html . In it, the reviewer states that 3 years ago the 801 would have been one of the most amazing production knives on the market, quite the endorsement. Maybe the 452cf has surpassed it though? Anyway those are my thoughts so far.

WOW the zt0600 is absolutely perfect. Unfortunately it is quite a bit more than I wish to spend right now on a single knife. It is truly beautiful though.

Find an 0801 on the exchange and you will find a very good knife for around $125 if you are patient. The 801 is built like a tank and flips like a dream.

FWIW I've never owned anything other than Benchmade and Spyderco in nearly 15 years until yesterday I received a ZT 0562 I won in a raffle and I am very surprised at how well designed and executed it is.
Your 940-1 is a great office knife, the PM2 is IMO one of the best EDC blades out there and the 0562 can be your "weekend" or hard use knife because it's built up (but not so much that unbalanced or too big).

I could never quite commit to the 0801 until the BW version appeared; then it was an absolute must. Great knife...but, the action might be unsuitable for the office - it's a dedicated flipper that fires like an assisted knife (no thumbstuds for controlled deployment). Further, it doesn't meet your criteria of being massively uncomfortable when you are sitting - I'm not quite sure why you would want that, but I don't even notice my 0801 in my right front pocket.

Hahaha, I meant to say should NOT be massively uncomfortable. My mistake. Do you think the 801 is a better knife than the 452cf?

I understood that ;)

For me? Absolutely. For you? I wouldn't presume to make that call. I'm not knocking the 0452CF in the least - I'm sure it's a great knife...if it appeals to you, and the length isn't a deterrent, give it a whirl.

If you get a chance to check out a ZT0560 I would recommend it. I have the ZT0562 and it is a little too small for me.

I just picked up a 562cf and absoulutly love it!!
