Hello,
I'm really interested in making traditional Barlow folder, I have been reading everything I can and have bought a couple of books.

Could anyone offer a source for a pattern?

I had the idea of buying a cheap one and using it for a pattern, but the shapes are always off from the classic look. I really appreciate the work of Tony and Reese Bose, and the offerings from Great Eastern Cuttlery.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I could use a point in the right direction.

Thank you
Dan

From what I understand, Tony Bose willingly shares his patterns with other knife makers. You could contact him.

If you tell me what bladeshape etc you want I can try mocking one up for you :D

Hello,
Thanks for the replies, I have only made fixed blades and only using steel such as O1 and 1095, I just ordered a trapper kit and want to complete that before moving on. I don’t have a shop full of equipment but I take my time and try to learn everything I can.

I bought a GEC American Jack and really like the lines and feel of the traditional knives.

I really respect the amount of time and patience it takes to make one, from what I’ve seen it’s not easy.

It would be great to ask Tony for a pattern, do you know how I would contact him?
His website does not have an email that I have seen.

Thanks
Dan

Hello,
That is really nice of you to offer, I won’t be able to be extremely specific as I do not have enough experience.

I like the clip point blades that have a slight belly and the spear point is my favorite blade shape, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it in a Barlow

There definetly are barlows with spear points ;) What do you want as full length/bladelenght/handle length?

I would like a shorter one with the oal being between 3 1/4 to 3.5 closed and a blade length proportionate to that size. I like the shorter bolsters - the look of the older style chunky vs the longer more tapered.
I’m not sure that helps much, I’ll try to find a pic

There is an address and phone number on his website. It is right at the top, under "Bose Knives".

Would any of this be helpful minus the bone cover. It’s from the 15 pattern same as the TC Barlow. The blade is clip point under the tape. If you agreed to send it back I would be willing to send it to you, if you want to pm me your address. I could also take a better picture that you could trace from and reduce or blow up to any size you wanted Half of one of the half stop corners is rounded but it would work fine as a pattern to trace or something. I also have a sheeps foot and Spey blade. In good condition so I may be less likely to send you but again would be happy to take a better picture maybe on a white background. How amazing that all you are willing to help! A truly wonderful community. I wish I could help you but I am not a knife maker, but a knife admirer! (I love barlows) I do wish you good luck with making the knife though!

I am really thankful I posted here this morning, I never thought a whole thread would start about helping me.
It’s really nice of all of you.

Hey,
A photo would be great, if you don't mind sending it when you have time. That is a nice looking knife. What are you doing with it, did it break or are you customizing it?
Thank you
Dan

9D707AEF-7435-43CB-BCAE-2B91C7255029.jpeg It provided the parts for this and then I will probably make it a single or maybe a double blade knife with the Spey and sheeps foot blades. I didn’t realize the covers were in usable shape until I looked today.
