I took a look at the paratraxx knife and thereviews were saying the type of steel wasnt to good. does anyone know of a place i canp lace an order to remake the knife but change the type of steel?

Hey L.T.
You probably already read this somewhere, but check out the Tops Tracker.
Yeah, its spendy, but It would cost you the same or more to have it custom made, If it was even possible. I think It is a patented design.
Good Luck.

You can have one made but it'll cost about three+ times what the Tops does. Of course, you can have it made to the original specifications, which the Tops ain't.

However, if you want to buy steel check out Tool and Die.

Some people also use Admiral Steel.

Hey I don't know the knife you are talking about or the review. At the risk of being bombarded with abuse. I have to say if you like the knife and it is for your use does it matter if you have to clean it or sharpen it a little more than another steel. And how much would that be anyway. Use a knife don't abuse it and it should treat you fine. If a review said a knife was over priced I may be concerened. I caried and used a pocket knife for years as an electrician. It cost about $15 in 1983 I still have it I sharpend it a bit I kept it clean.

Be happy with what you have. Then make your own knife just because it is a chalenge. Make it the best you can. Don't worry about a review if you already have the knife.

Well I just made a stupid reply - I replied to another thread! I think I should have gotten more sleep last night. Sorry for the interruption.

LT, if you didn't already know, the paratraxx is a cheap version of dave beck's wsk (wilderness survival knife). he doesn't make wsk's anymore and the last of the ones he made go for like $1k on ebay. the only other viable option (that i know of) is Roger Linger who makes a butt-kickin wsk, but also tends to be pricey. so, after several months of drooling over these knives online, and (inconveniently) being a broke teenager, i decided to make my own. i'm almost done with it now, with only the teeth to file on and then the heat treat. if you wanna take that route i'd suggest toolanddie.com for the steel. i used 0-1 for simplicity and ease of working. if you're interested, i can email you the rough design i used, but it might just be easier to draw your own...

btw, here's Mr. Linger's page just incase: http://riflestocks.tripod.com/pics41.html

hope this helps,
Alex
