Disclaimer: Let's not turn this into another typical "Dark-Ops" thread, I think we all know how we feel about these knives and the companies marketing strategy.

Mod's: I'm putting this here for highest exposure since DO has been such a hot topic lately.

So.....

I've had my local dealer keeping an eye out for when he could a DO folder, more out of curiosity than anything. Well he told me today his distributor has the Strato Fighter folder in stock and I can buy one for "testing" for whatever it costs him. (about $170 after shipping)

So here's the deal. I'm willing to front $40 of my own money which leaves about $130 left. If we can get enough people to send me either $5 or $10 + $1 to cover fees via Paypal, I will buy one and test the hell out of it with the ulitmate goal of destroying the knife so we can see what it's made of.

Here's the way I'll do it:

- Send $6 and you can pick one non-destructive test and one potentially destructive test.
- Send $11 and you can pick two non-destructive tests and one potentially destructive test.

I'll do all of the non-destructive tests (within reason, I'm not making 10,000 cuts in hemp rope!), then we'll figure out an order of destructive tests (least-likely to most-likely) to see when the knife fails.

All tests will be fully documented and photographed with the final results being posted here.

Finally, I'm definitely not out to get a knife or make any money, so when we have enough volunteers we'll cut off the sign up.

When we're done we can ship the pieces around to the people who participate. Kind of like a reverse passaround :p

Please post whether or not you're willing to play and we'll figure everything else out when we have enough people.

This sounds like a worthy endeavor.

Count me in for $25.00. I'll Paypal $26.00 so as to cover the fee.

You pick the tests you want to conduct in my name and let me know after the fact.

Please let me have the email address to Paypal the funds to you.

maybe you should call Frank and see if you give you one for free to try. Why not do the passaround and then do the detsructive tests?

Thanks Wray!

I have no problem doing a passaround if that's what people would prefer, I'd just want someone who does more passarounds to take it over since I've never done one, any takers?

Dave, I was kind of wondering that myself, I'm sure he'll chime in here if he's willing, or he can send me an email. I'm fairly confident that he's reading the forums.

My guess is that they're coming from the same factory that E.R. knives are coming from. As of right now, I have no reason to believe otherwise. Something else that might be fun is to do a comparison testing between the two. Just a thought.

I vote we send it to Cliff Stamp along with a BM or Spydie and he can do a comparison. Basically, I want to see a Dark Ops with a broken blade. Basically.

You and me both, but not before some hard nosed testing that matches their advertising strategy.

Anyone can break a blade, I want to see this thing tested to its failure point, then break it ;)

I don't know, DO's are billed as made in the USA where ER is not. Plus, given the relationship and bad blood between Frank and ER I really don't see them playing nice.

You have a good idea.

Running a passaround is not difficult, it just takes some work.

- Collect the moeny.
- Collect the name address, email and phones for each person.
- Put them in some kind of order or not.
- Send it to the firts person on the list.
- Keep the list handy for when it's lost.
- check on it's progress.
- That's about it.

I've never seen any ads for a Dark Ops thing, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. Anyone have a link to the ad?

Go to your browser type in dark ops knives and hit enter, I did, and came up with 44,000 + hits, the first one took me to their site.

PM me if your having computer problems and I'll send you the link. ;)

Finally found their ad. It's not THAT bad.

Well, except for this part

"Strategically placed blood grooves control blood spray in covert deanimation activities. "

Covert...deanimation...activities.....

I'll be honest, I only wanted to see the ad because I've been studying for days and I needed a good laugh. I'm pleased that Dark Ops successfully delivered the absolute best knife..........laughs I've had in a long time.

I'm in Chad. Just let me know where to send and when. It will be interesting see what you come up with and to see someone do a fair and unbiased test of this knife. Great idea!

I have never looked into Do knives until you mentioned it. Their marketing campaign is only rivaled by Stan Bulmer's LeMas Ltd ammunition campaign.

Bunch of hype ammo, you can read about it in tactical forums or ar15.com

Personally I won't be satisfied until some tester gets all tactical and demonstrates the rectal jab as a handy way of dispatching Robocop.

Money where your, uh, mouth is, indeed.
:>

/Actually, as a piss-poor wannabe print designer myself, I love the ads. They give me that extra boost of confidence to not scrap a disaster idea at the last minute.

//I'm sure they're in fact fine tools, but even if my wallet had an ego big enough to try one out, even that wallet would laugh me out at the thought. It would be like buying a suppressor from Mickey Mouse.
