Want to put together knife restoration kit. Advice?

Hi,

I want to put together knife restoration setup. Basically looking to take knives and straight razors with made of carbon and stainless steel, remove any rust and pitting and restoring it to a mirror finish. I have a buffing wheel, but which other tools, compounds and supplies would you suggest that I purchase?

Pitting can only be removed by abrading the surface AROUND the pitting to the level of the deepest pits.
 
The only way it can effectively be done by hand is to use sanding blocks that fit the contour of the blade grind. Use good quality wet/dry silicon carbide paper in varying grits from 320-2000+.
There isn't much thickness on a razor blade to do this.
