Welcome to Shop Talk. Start by filling out your profile with all the info (age, location, hobbies, etc.). Then, start by reading through the stickys. The count will come along soon and post his standard reply to newbies. There is a ton of info in that. There are lots of makers around you, and several events held in your area.
Get your folks on board with your desire to make knives, as at age 14, no adult knifemaker can or will teach you without their permission and usually their presence.
At 14 no boy wants to hear, "take your time", but that is the best advice we can give you. Read, read, read. I would not put total stock in the YouTube videos, but many are good ( some are really bad info). When you understand the basic procedures and materials, make some sketches and post them here. The folks will give you advice and critique your plan. Have a thick skin. We treat all new makers as if they were adults. That means a person will most likely honestly tell you what is good and bad about your drawing and plans. With the vast knowledge found here and some good listening skills, you can make a very nice knife.
