What can you tell me about this knife?

It was the last one in the case and they did not have the box or any papers.

It was clearanced for $22. It did not have a reg. price on it and the girl at the store did not know what the reg. price was.
It seemed like a preaty nice knife for $22 and I liked the shape and color so I got it :)

What I would like to know is:

1. Blade material
2. Handle material
3. Reg. price
4. If you have or had one what your thoughts are on the knife.

Thanks,
pahl

The 170 Lightning HTA with this color handle was last offered in the 2000 catalog. The handle is anodized aluminum, the blade steel is 420HC and I think the MSRP was $57.00. I do not have the 2000 price list with me but the 2001 pricer quotes $57 for a similar knife.

I find the lightning series knives to be smooth in operation but I have not used the 420HC blades.

Thanks for all the info.
Is there a pocket clip I can get for this model or is that the 175 that has a pocket clip???

Really seems like a nice knife.

Thanks again,
pahl

Only the larger knife has the clip. I have one of the larger ones, well a friend has it now actually:) , but it is a very dependable knife. And has good ergonomics.

You can find later model 170s with the pocketclip. The 2000 catalog featured several 170s with pocketclips and subsequent 170s have all offered the pocketclip.
In the 2000 catalog, handle options included pewter, red/black, blue marble and black-oxide. Hope this helps. By the way, only the pewter 170 remains in the 2002 catalog.

How do the pocket clips attach on these knives?

Do the knives you can attach a clip to have threaded holes in the handle to screw the clip to?

I don't see any holes in my handle's were you could screw a pocket clip to.

Thanks for all the great info..

pahl

the reverse side is drill and tapped for screws to hold the clip. as a price note, i paid 44.95 at a local sporting goods store for my first one,no clip and 41.95 for a newer one with a clip. i have previously asked Joe about adding a clip and was advised not unless the knife was originally made for it.
