Just thinking out load here, I would love to see an option from the Custom shop for the Vanguard. Just think of some of the sweet blades that you could design. A few different steel options, Bone, Antler, Micarta, various wood handle options as well as an option for brass or nickle silver bolsters and pommel.....man that would be sweet! Who's with me? Come on, how bout it Buck!

Plumberdv did a post last year on some custom wood handle ones put out by a small gun company. They are real cool!

:D That was a Vantage Tom, not a Vanguard. They are still available. They are a special projects knife for Bond Arms.

Trevy, Buck has been doing less lately, not more.

They don't really have a custom shop anymore, just a place where customers can get a few additional options not otherwise available.

I haven't seen any indications that things will get better.

I guess it's just not as economically smart for them to custom a variety of different knives. It would be nice to see them offer more than two options in the custom shop, maybe a few more of the top sellers in their lineup. I guess all I can do is dream of a premium steel Vanguard with bone or stag in nickle:D

If you do some searching you can come up with some on the market now. I know there are some out there with S30V and BG-42 blades. Some have burled wood handles. I don't recall seeing any with stag or bone handles, but they may exist also.

I too wish Buck would drop the Alpha from the custom shop and add the 112 or something else in it's place.

I have seen a few with premium steel in Burl, but have been unable to find one with both stag and an upgraded steel. I would love to have one such as the Ram horn version bass pro sells with an upgraded steel, that ram horn handle feels great!

I too would love to see the Alpha Hunter dropped, its my least favorite of the fixed hunting blades.

Keep your eyes peeled :D They are out there. There are also ATS-34 blades and Buckcote/ionfusion.

Before Buck moved they were going to be added instead of the alphas I believe. Unfortunately the idea was scrapped and all the blades were sold as build out knives. There are quite a few vanguards around with designers choice and custom stamps.

For the money, you can't go wrong with the cabelas AG 192 ;)

It would be nice if they at least had the 119 that you could trick out but who knows maybe they would be really exspensive to do and not worth doing.

I agree Jim the AG 192 is like a Custom knife.
