In just under one week's time I'll soon be heading to upstate New York for a college orientation. I got accepted into Syracuse's environmental program.

Seeing as how I'm working to be a park ranger—or, as the college insists, a "forest resource manager"—and I've received a hundred dollars to spend on myself in congratulations, I plan on getting a new fixed blade. I have chosen the BK7. I already have a Bear & son skinner that I really like even despite this forum's animosity toward that company (the steel sharpens up easily and I don't particularly care that the "stag" bone is fake since it's strong as hell), and a Buck 119. The BK7 will be fixing my itch for a full-tang bowie that isn't made in Pakistan. ;)

The problem is, cordura and nylon sheaths have been only bad to me. Besides looking better, leather is easier to maintain and repair, and in some cases stronger. I also don't like the BK7 sheath's reputation of having no retention value.

Who can you recommend to make a simple, strong leather sheath for the BK7? I'm already spending at least $70 on the knife so any option ≤$40 will be considered. It doesn't have to be beautiful or fancy; it has to be strong, and it has to work. (Though I will say I would prefer a neutral color: black, brown, tan.) Inserts are always good.

Great choice for a good all around field knife! :) Makes me miss mine again, should have never sold it. :(

Best of luck on your sheath search, I've been seeing a lot of new makers lately that I bet would fill your need nicely, even better finding one that has the knife already.

PS, not a darn thing wrong with a lot of the Bear brand knives out there, they don't use the fanciest steel or high end handle materials, but they cut stuff. :D

I understand if the price I'm asking is a bit low. But like I said, it doesn't have to be a work of art.
