NewBladeforums was started ftom thefiringline forums, right?
Looking up BG-42 (CTS-B75) today, I stumbled on an old thread (there's a nice old Olamic for sale right now) dating way back when and it was interesting for 10 minutes seeing topics like "will S30VN replace S35VN" and other things being discussed 20 years ago.

I don't have the forum skills to look up the first 6 months of posts, I can search by clicking on the calendar but not sort by date.
Anyone know how to see the first couple months of topics without putting a half hour into trying?
Here's one with some old prices and pics:

This is my first chris reeve knife, picked it up last week and I am very impressed. I have used it for everything I can think of including skinning small game. Im disappointed to hear the one piece series is being discontinued, so Im scraping change together to get a mountaineer 1.

Congratulations on your first post and Welcome to the CRK Family. I cant see your pic, what did you get ?? We are all bummed the One Piece line is going away, after amassing 17 of them, I was hoping for even more models. I dont have a mountaineer I as I prefer the spear point versions better, but all the One Piece knives are awsome and you cannot go wrong with any one you choose !!!

TY for the welcome. Its a Shadow IV. If I can find a shadow III with a single guard I would rather get it than the mountaineer 1, I prefer the spearpoints as well.

Cool, now I can see the pic. The shadow line is my favorite by far and I feel the Shadow IV is the most versitile of them all. Its a great all-around size. I think New Graham has the Shadow III single guard. They go for around $205 I think. The shadow III was my first CRK. I have used it quite a bit and even got another shadow III for a back-up. Check these out:

Yes, the ones with the octogon handle were made in south africa. There are some usa made ones with hex handles as they had some left over when they came to the usa. But the two I have, the jereboam I and pachmayr are SA made.

New graham does have a site and here is the link to the single guard shadow III, they are $205 and they have 2 in stock:

here are some pics of my shadow III held in hand so you can better see the size and how little the top guard would effect use. I wear size large Glove, so that should give you an idea of hand size. Enjoy !

This seems like a tech support question not general knife discussion, I let the mods know.

FWIW I have not had much success finding very old posts.

Man, thanks for making me feel all that buried regret for not buying a CRK one piece when I had the chance all over again.

I would be afraid to search my old posts. I signed up when I was 18 or 19, I'm 35 now, lol. I'm sure I was a complete idiot on here back then.

LOL! Holy cow, blast from the past.

Dude had a Shadow IV at the local gun show years back. I had the money, but figured on buying a gun or two.

Didn't find any firearms that I wanted, so I headed back to buy that Shadow. It was long gone.

Damn, I'd forgotten all about regretting that... thanks for opening up the old wound.:D

Lol I know, but after being so involved the last few years I am GLAD I never bought anything just to resell or because of any other reason than I really wanted or needed it.
Like that Boker dessert warrior, I knew that thing was going to be resellable but not for me. I know it's cliche, but the "flippers" don't add anything to the community IMO. Easier ways to make a buck than inflating pricrs. Not that it's unique to our crowd. SMH every time I see a Colt Python being purchased for thousands. Try finding a competent gunsmith to properly work on them.

You did search the Archives, right?

Top left when you select "Forums" and it lists the categories, go all the way to the bottom and look at "Archives".

While you are in the Archives section, search in the search box and check the "Search This Forum Only" box.

Should get you some black and white footage.

No, I didn't know about that. Thank you!
I'm mainly interested in the steel conversations because it giv you insight into the same conversations going on today.
Maybe we are talking about different steels, but the basic conversation is the same. For me, the most important thing is looking at stain resistance and what takes the thinnest edge since fleshing, filetting, and field dressing require relatively specific knives. Not to say you can't do those things with an "overbuilt" knife, but it's a lot more pleasant with certain knives.

But it IS great to see the knives we could have all bought for a lot less!
