Christmas is approaching and my family is asking for ideas. They want something more than "anything that does not require batteries or electricity". So, does anyone make the following:

1. a non-serated Tanto blade folder
2. better grade carbon/alloy steel (420/440x need not apply)
3. "bone" or otherwise traditional looking handle?

I've seen 1&2 and 2&3, but I have come across all three in a knife. Sypderco make something like it (Kiwi), but not in the blade style I want.

Any thoughts?

How about a custom maker, I am sure you could find one willing to make a tanto with bone scales. Bub Lum comes to mind for starters.

Or how about a modified production knife? I have read of a few people that do that type of stuff. Find a production tanto in the type of steel you want, and have someone add the type of scales you like.

Both of these are great idea's, but my family is a bit low-tech and I was hoping to find something "off the shelf." May save this idea for any "Christmas Cash" that might show up.

JHouston :)

What about something like these?

Oooooo! That damascus has possibilities. Not really a tanto folder, but still nice. I've never "fiddled" much with bali's.

well the bear knives are not bad. The majority I have seen seem okay. Its just lkike anything else, sometimes you get bad with the good. Overall i would probably trust them a little more the the case as far as "f & f" these days. Sad to say that.
