I searched the threads, and did not find much conclusive on the Ubejane. I have been able to handle a Mountaineer 1 and Shadow III. I liked them both. I have not been able to handle and Ubejane.

I will be using for hiking/camping stuff. No skinning though, although I will use for food prep. I am not really concerned about the weight difference (5.5 oz. versus 11.5 oz)

Any one have strong opinions against the Ubejane when compared to the others? (Also posted in CRK forum).

I have handled the Ubejane and its a nice knife but dedicated to skinning. Does not mean it cant be used for other things, but that that is the forte of that particular blade style. The Sable IV sounds like what you are looking for. Its 5.5 inch blade length, and the blade shape is very general use. I have the Shadow IV and Project 1, and the Shadow IV would probably fill the bill as well. It has the spearpoint which makes for a strong tip to use in digging into wood or light prying, and yet works well for other tasks.

As an aside, I never have used my CRK one piece knives for field dressing animals due to the raspy handles. I am afraid of getting some blood and tallow in between the little grooves and then having a heck of a time getting it out. I suppose a soft bristle tooth brush would take care of it....but never did it.
