Hey there- I've been entertaining the thought of getting a Twitch XL as a first knife. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a decent knife that will get the job done, and price is a big factor as I am in college (Where has all my money gone?!). I was thinking that the TiNi coating is a good idea as I will be using it, and would love to know what people think of the knife. Any suggestions or info is always much appreciated.

SOG makes very good knives at competitive prices. Period.

There's something you should consider, though. A lot of colleges ban knives because they're "weapons" (while baseball bats are "sports equipment"). In the case of the Twitch that negative perception will be compounded because of the spring assisted opening. Then it's not only a "weapon" but a "switchblade".

I know, that's stupid. Just remember you're going to be the one who has to convince the campus cops otherwise.

I agree. If you want something that can open with one hand and locks but isn't conspicous Victrinox makes a SAK with a thumbhole in the blade.

i got a twitch II at Lowes hardware for like 40 or so bucks. i like it. its 2.7 inches long, so its small enough not to be looked at as a weapon, but big enough to do daily cutting chores. as it stands, in my area, AO is not classed as switchblades, which is surprising, because the commonwealth is very opposed to its subjects -- i mean, citizens-- carrying weapons. the clip was tight, but that was an easy fix.

as to college campuses, check the student affairs manual, usually there's a blade lenght mentioned. if your state allows AO, your college likely will not prohibit it (or mention it for that matter). if you're responsible and don't do stupid stuff to be noticed by the police, and don't go showing off the knife in front of non knife people, you'll probably be ok. with that said, vaako is absolutely right, you're the one who has to deal with the campus police, and i'm sure you know how they can be.
