Hello bladeforums HI family, i regretfully have not known of this companies exsistance untill today how sad ive been!
I enjoy woods work with big knives. slap me, lecture me, throw an axe at me, but for whatever reason, thats just who i am. if ive had a stressful, boring, fun, bad, or any other day, i just like to go cut wood with big knives :)
so, as it turns out, i was considering buying a cold steel gurka in carbon, but i like the looks of HI much more and theyre hand made. the models i like the looks of are

15 ang khola
british service
salyan

I like the black on brass of the horn handle. I normally am comfortable with a 7 inch blade but thought a kukuri should be a bit bigger. i like thick blades. any pointers/ advice would be great

Welcome welcome:)

It sounds to me like a 15" ang khola would be right in line with what you need. It's a great first khuk;)

I second what Steely says. I own both may one rest in peace. My 15" AK has been put through some tough times and survived where others would not. There is an advantage to the differentially treated blade of the traditional style. Your not going to break it! For knives of this size and weight you just cannot beat its overall usefulness and durability. Now if you want larger the 18" is a possibility as well. Another perk is they are one of the most beautifully fullered pieces in the lineup and mirror watery finish cant be beat. The first few chops on that mirror finish are really hard but you get over it. If you go into the 18 inch range many like the M43 as well. The 15" Ang Khola is really a beast for it size though.

Welcome to the forum man! Any of those would be a great choice. I'd also recommend the Ang Khola as well. I got one for my brother as a gift, and am a little jealous. BTW, keep in mind that the measurements are in over all length.

Dang it, I just realized your not new to the forum. Welcome anyway.

15 inch is just right for longer chopping sessions for me (210 pounds and 6feet and 2inch and quite strong)
Longer and heavier Kukris are too hard for me to control without having to focus a lot at every swing. 15 inch however is close to effortless and feels more like a natural extension of my arm.

ok the 15 inch AK has been stuck inmy head all night and then i come back to this ;) so i think thats what ill do. i have my green chrome and buffing wheel i use for sharpening and polishing so scratches no bother me :)

Sharked a "blem" 17.5" chitlangi for my first khuk. When it gets here I'm planning on rust bluing when the finish gets marred or a patina starts forming.

It would be awesome if you can share how to do rust blueing on a Kukri.
Just heard about blueing yesterday and would like to try it too.
Thank you.

Want me to start a thread in the Cantina? I'll detail my plans (no practical experience yet).
