Now that it appears the Foxy Folly is gonna happen and since that will fulfill my dream khukuri I want to branch out in other areas of collecting.;)
I prefer ethnic knives, preferably larger ones that were used as both tools and weapons. I kinda had my heart set on a barong but after hearing back from Cecil at Sandata that it's primarily a weapon and not much else I'm beginning to think they may not be my best choice. Besides they no longer make one without a false sharp back edge like many of the old ones were.:(
So how about a parang, golok, and other similar weapons and tools that will do for chopping similar to a khukuri?

Please name your choices and links to where to get 'em if ya got 'em.:D

I would like to have at least one more khuk, that is if I could get a 16"-17" BDC! :D
Methinks it would also be a sweet knife!;) :D

Goloks are nice, but very light compared to all but the very lightest kuks.

Thanks Ken.:D Most are too rich for my budget though.:( And I want something I can also chop with if I wanted to, not quite sure one should do that with an old Barong. ;)

or collecting ethnic axes, like a Francisca, or the Danish axe, ...

I started on ethnic spears meself.
:D:D:D

Yvsa,
Do you have a copy of Stone's Glossary? The complete name is "A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor in all Countries and in All Times".

2nd vote for the golok - but get one with a wider blade (2.5"+)

Just about anything from Valiant Co. would satisfy the itch....

Historical Axes, 'Hawks, Halberds and other polearms (if you've got the room). If I ever (yes I will) get my shop back together I'm going to grind me a Scottish Lochabar Ax (think I messed up spelling), kind of a mid-size ax/polearm used by the "police" of the time. Must have been a reason- probably gave advantage over anyone armed with a sword or knife- even a Khuk! :p

Unless you're fighting in a phone booth. :)

The phone booth is not the place for hand grenade jitsu either.

What about a Lochaber ax with a Khukuri-style curved blade... twice as fast sweep and a hook to pull 'em in range?

Perhaps you could move from collecting to making the knives and tools that interest you the most.

Yuh nSuh?

Dunno why, but the kinjal (?sp) has always fascinated me. Found in many cultures...possibly evolving with conquest. Not choppers really, but lovely to my eyes.

Read the safety thread.

Or, maybe ethnic daggers in general. This one is sinister looking:

And this, expensive, but so very lovely:
