Hey peoples,

Ya, it's me, long time no see. I'm just back to pose a question for you. I'm wanting to buy my father-in-law
a nice knife for his upcoming birthday, and I've always as a personal preferance gone with SOG. He visits the
Tenn. mtns quite often, during which times he always has a side-arm on hand. I'd like to get him a good knife to pair with his sidearm. It's bear country. So, I was thinking maybe a stout fixed-blade..a Force or a Seal Team, or maybe even a Creed. Considered the Super Bowie--WAY to expensive. I'm running a small buisness, and thus price is a consideration. I can't afford much, but he IS my father-in-law. I've only had a Seal Pup and Team (Elite), never had a Creed or Force--or Super..

Pro's n' Con's...

Seal-Style:No parts to come loose..cheaper..

SCT-Style (Separate Component Technology)...parts that can come loose...and I've no idea what tool to
use to tighten them...

Personally, I enjoyed the Seal Pup Elite I had for awhile (before it was stolen), it was pretty tough..thinner than the Force, but it help up very well. Bigger than my old Ka-bar infact. I've helped him move furniture, and take them apart...he's been known to use a knife to pry with...so...any ideas?

Drop a line and let me know plz, I don't wanna get him something that won't fit his need.

bored2deth, good to hear from you.

How about this. If he is coming to the TN mountains, do you mean he is coming to the Smoky mountains area ? If so, you really should consider getting him a SOG Revolver series, either the SEAL (black blade) or the Hunter Revolver, (flat grind, gut hook).

Both knives have been on the market since 03 so this means they have been proven........except I would never pry with any knife, they are simply not meant for prying. You can get by with it a few times, but just when you think it won't happen it does........it will eventually break.

The SOG Revolver knives are what I would consider a must for these TN mountains, or any mountains for that matter. This way he would have a great wood saw (firewood and shelter) or bone saw, plus a great multi-purpose cutting blade for what ever the mountains dish out.

And to put icing on the cake so to speak, if you choose to get one of these, you could tell him about Smoky mountain knife works, where they sell both models, and he could buy one there and leave it with one of the managers with his name/info. and ask them to contact me at home, (they have my number) and I will be glad to go by in a day or so after being notified (30 miles from my house) and personally engrave my name on the SOG Revolver knife just for him (no charge of course) where he could pick it up in a day or so.

If your not interested, then no probem at all, I would say any straight SOG knife would serve him well.

If you decide to do this, just PM me or shoot me an email to give me some info. on when he will be in this area ahead of time, and I will try to see it gets done for him.

For the price of these knives, you could easily get him 2 different models if you wanted to. Like the Creed and a Revolver.

I have a Field Pup that is really handy, and a NW Ranger that is super for a trail knife. If you are going to consider a large knife, you might take a look at the Becker BK7. I really like mine as a large yet light knife, with an excellent feel, and carbon steel.

If he uses it to pry then either the becker bk2. With a five inch blade that's 1/4 inch thich 1095 saber ground of edged prybaylr pretty much. 60 dollars on amazon. Or the bk3 eight inch part serrated blade 1/4 inch chisel ground. There's a youtube video of it LITTERALLY field dressing a car. ( cut off the roof, broke all windows, even removed the cotter pin.

Thank you for the offer, Robbie,

I'll likely take you up on that offer soon, if that's okay. I wouldn't mind to have an autographed revolver myself. I actually ended up getting him a Buck..something or other, it's more his forte'. (Hard to talk him into carrying a fixed-blade..lol).. :-)
Thank you for the advice, though, and I'm thinking......Father's Day is coming up, so I just might have to get em' one then.

Thanks!
