This drop point is my latest project. My 2nd knife and like the first its 1084 and hand filed. I pretty much copied jonny macs drop point XL as close as I could. Thanks for the permission jonny. I'm contemplating filing a swedge but I'm nervous about trying as IMAG0123.jpgid rather not mess this one up. The blade is only sanded to 50 grit and of course there's a bit more work to do on it. I took the edge pretty thin so I can compare it to my other wharnie when I end up heat treating. Still need to drill holes. Thanks for looking

Nice job so far, Reiko:thumbup: Thanks for the nod, and be sure to post more pics as it gets completed.

Don't be afraid to file that swedge. I know from experience that you never know if you can do it or not until you try! You did a good job filing the bevel, so why not try the swedge? Save it for your next project if you want but I'd encourage you to go for it. They can be a bit frustrating at times, but never as intimidating as you might suspect.

Keep it up!

Thats pretty nice. depending on the blade, swedges are the thing that just makes them pop, and they aren't that hard. if you go slow and treat it like it is the bevel, then you will be just fine. if you try to go fast and are sloppy, you end up with something that just was a waste of metal. ask me how i know. ;)

Have fun, and don't be afraid to experiment. many knives need an extra something to make them perfect. unless you are giving this away, try something new. mistakes can usually be fixed and sometimes turn out really nice.

Cool! I hate to waste steel, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened:D The bottom line is that it's just a piece of metal....until you make it something else, meaning a knife. So I say go for it! Have fun and show us the progress.

I thought i recognised that shape. Looking good. Don't worry. It'll still cut if you don't get the swedge quite right ;)

IMAG0140.jpgSooo I attempted the swedge today not really happy with it but I know how to fix it. I faceted the swedge near the tip where it meets the grind line. It needs to be one smooth line

It's still good for your 2nd knife with files , my 2nd knife with only files is in the junk pile . You got the bevel pretty even which looks good did you draw file mostly or use a jig ? Touch up that swedge and heat treat and handle it and you'll have a fine knife to be proud of.
