Ok friends, with the custom shop on hiatus, I have decided that I will break from my cycle of only BRUISER g10 and get into some exotic woods or specialty pieces of wood.

This is where this journey starts, a war boar

As we all know it can't stay black with black canvas.... So I call this stripper I know, Citristrip and we get down on it, so to speak. Do note all the holes drilled into the tang, if I had not put so much effort into getting the special piece of wood I would have just rounded the spine as I love the look.

Now the handle material I have selected is a 8"chunk of teak that is 3"thick because it used to be the deck of the USS NORTH CAROLINA battleship.

After selecting the species and select piece of said species I begin by making copies of the canvas grips from outlining their shape onto the wood. Then I cut it out with a coping saw then sanding the rest.

Then perfecting the new grip fit to the knife itself

Then I finish sand and smooth the task and prep it for tung oil.

Here it is with only one cost of tung oil with grips installed. I will probably end up with around 10 layers of tung oil but the color and richness will deepen with every coat.

I must say that being a wood worker by trade this modification was super easy compared to the g10, I just felt more at home with the material. Here are so more pics...

I made these grips slightly thicker as the stock war boar felt slightly thin in my hand. I will say that the two surprises I got in this mod were the cool lightening holes in the tang and the glorious INFI dimples in every flat piece of metal on the knife. I eventually worked it all of the dimples as I wanted a big finish or better. That's for your time hogs, any questions or comments will be taken below... Now in all seriousness let's drink....

wow...that's some historic handle material you got to employ...I think your repurposing is a great way to honor it...that's my 2 cents...

thanks for the view beneath the handles also, I'm pretty sure that's the 1st x-ray boar pics I've seen...love the dimples (I would have left 'em) & all the knockouts, very interesting...

looks like a CBT vibe kinda thing is going on there too reminds me of the Hot Diggety Daggers, I like it...

Piglet approved mod upgrades...three hooves up!:thumbup::thumbup:

Oh...and where'd you source those torx fasteners?

Wow that is nice.

I have always wanted a satin finished WB.

Does the sheath still fit ?

If not I think I can run you through a fix or you can send the sheath and knife in and I will fix it up for you.
(it will only take 6 to 9 months :) )

Would LOVE a WB. Checked about 6 months back and they didn't have any blanks...hopefully we get a shot with Operation Two Weeks!

Breavis, these are some great mods! I really like the historic background to the scales.
Would you please tell me exactly which screws you used to attach the beautiful wood scales?
I am trying to find screws and connectors to use on my fat NMFSH with mag handles. Unfortunately when ordering in the US the shipping to Austria most of the time is 30$ for a tiny package of screws. However, maybe I can find something here.
Thanks man!

Great work breavis! And hey, that 6 to 9 month wait from David Brown will probably be alot quicker than other things....lol.

Ok so the exact link for the torq screws is here

Back up one page from there to find the threaded spacer. These work great on anything with a final thickness over 5/16 with handle material maybe a little more. They used to have thinner threaded spacers but the .25 ones are gone. Be careful I've miss ordered several times

To Dave Brown. I will have to pass on sending this guy in. It fit very tightly but a few passes with a heat gun and a few carefully placed clamps to hold it until cooled and it fits great now...

I meant the use this wood to honor the memory of those men who served not just on the ussnc but all ships. Our angels in the water, God bless you.

WOW breavis! That looks GORGEOUS!~!!!!

Love you choice of wood for the new scales too!!!

Awesome Mod breavis  And an outstanding choice of wood.

The only thing that might look better is if it were Carolina Blue ;) JK

Thanks a lot man!
However, unfortunately they charge 40 something $ for international shipping for that small package (or letter maybe..)
Thats just ridiculous.
I will have to find that stuff somewhere else, dont know where though.

Excellent work! It looks great! I love that there is history behind the material too.

Honestly, I'd leave it. That satin looks killer with that old, old wood, from that old, old wooden ship.
