I made a few of these Cleavers years back, this one is the biggest by far. Called the others "Combat" Cleavers, figured this size should be called a "War Cleaver".

Blade is 13-1/4" long x 3-1/2" wide at "clip". Forged from 1095, 1/4" at spine, no distill taper, sharp clip (cut the crap out of my leg....long story;) ) Overall length is about 18-1/2", has exposed "window knocker" tang. Handle is plain Ironwood, grooved to aid in holding on to this beast when swinging.

Sun wasnt co-operating with me today, couldnt get the hamon to show up well, but here are a few pics-

that is awesome. what made you decide to sharpen the clip?

i love the handle.

Couple reasons I sharpen the clip, 1- to use for busting through anything you dont want to sacrafice your primary edge on 2- to help "pierce" if need be 3- I think it looks cool.

I bet it must be hard to let this monster go but I also bet the buyer is gonna be insanely happy.

Matt, that's insane...makes me wanta clear an acre of brush.( and that handle is neat)

whats not to like.........but I can certainly envision you holding that thing in one hand and someone that you really dont likes head in the other!!!!:(

Just wicked, Matt! Sorry about that leg wound...sounds like you aren't use to handling those 3 1/2-inch wide blades!! :D Cool handle.

thanks all... yeah Don the leg is OK, really wasnt "using" when it grabbed my leg.

I Love That Knife Matt
I'd Love to use one in the Kitchen for splitting Bones

Matt,

First of all, great meeting you at Blade, second...Awesome!!!:D

Any chance that we might get a picture of that in your hand to get a better perspective on the size?

This is a very nice piece Matt. It looks like it would be one hell of a camp knife.

I think you go the handle groove just right. The grooves are wide enough to make for a very nice visual impact.
