Well....
My tag came unfilled though my hunting partner bagged this bull calf. We dinned on fresh steaks cut from its back straps in camp. Nothing fills the belly like tender elk meat after a long weekend beating the bush. It snowed almost every night and at the top of Buffalo pass where we were hunting there was over two feet . I had a close encounter with a nice cow but she got away, wouldnt present a clean shot! Oh well.... at least my game warden got a work out. It made quick work out of skinning and gutting the animal. We skinned the Elk to make a nice hide for tanning, and it was sharp from the get go to the tail end! Held it's edge great!! I posted this pic of my Buddy eating the heart for all you last of the Mohican hunters out there!
Enjoy.

Congrats on the Elk, should be nice tender meat. I like eating the Heart myself, although I like mine a little more well done. :)

LAst time I had Elk was in 04, everyone was emptying deep freezers due to loss of power after the hurricane Katrina....

BBQ'd elk, deer, hog, and every type of seafood was all we ate for weeks.

Great kill!!!!!

Good luck to all you hogs who still have a chance to score this year! Nothing like a frezzer full of Elk to take you through the winter! Make sure to take some Pics!!
Yesterday I made elk sausages and jerky! Both came out great! but those Elk steaks are fantastic!!

Awesome.

I am so jealous. All we get to shoot here is whitetails. Not that there is anything wrong with venison but I love Elk steaks.

Hey Garth come on out to the Wild West and I can point you in the direction of a nice Elk GMU to get your hunt on! Also, thank you for the fast turn around on my CGFBM that I sent into the shop for some edge work and polishing!:D It came out great, plus I had it for firewood duty up in the mountains for my Elk trip! ;)
