With the introduction of Dr. David Darom's new publication "Julie Warenski-Erickson", three of the four principal players will be in attendance at the 2013 Blade Show, table 1E. I mention "three of the four" because a nice portion of the publication is devoted to the works of the late, great Buster Warenski, who passed away in 2005.

Dellana has graciously offered up her front row table in order that David's book about Julie can be readily available to the many attendees who will pass into the main area early. Julie Warenski, husband Curt Erickson and Dr David Darom will be there to sign copies of the new book, which looks to be a hit.

Julie will have a single knife (from the book) available, Curt with five or six (of which there'll be only one dagger and one California knife). Below is one of the fighters Curt will have available:

Overall length 11 1/2", 440-C stainless blade (6 1/2"), premium bark mammoth with great color, tapered tang, hot-blued fittings, stainless pins and thong hole, solder-less guard/filefit, 24k gold and platinum inlays by Julie.

Looking forward to meeting with everyone at the show. Hope it's not to busy so I can check out all the great knives.

Here's the only California knife that Curt made for Blade. Luckily, this was finished in time to get imaged and displayed here in the forum, before the show.

Overall length 11 1/2" with 6 5/8" blade of 440-C. Three piece guard trimmed in 24k gold beading, set with rubies and pave diamonds. Fully engraved, wrapped handle trimmed with 24k gold beading and gold inlay, background of pave diamonds. Eternity pattern overlays. Similarly adorned full metal sheath to accompany. Embellishments by Julie Warenski-Erickson.

That first knife in particular in beautiful.. I love the guard treatment. Are those inlays flush with the steel or proud?

Julie's gold and platinum inlays on the guard in question are raised (proud), not flush.

That is what I thought... thank you. I very much prefer raised inlays.. something I'm trying to learn myself. This work is so inspiring... thank you for posting.

Scott, here's another "fancy" fighter/dirk Curt will be taking to Blade. All of the gold inlays are raised on this one, as well. Most of what one sees from Julie is in a raised form, rather than flush, even when it's on a sheath frog, as in this sheath - and in the escutcheon. Some reaaallly nice mammoth on this one, and black diamonds on the pins.

Gosh I just love it. I first saw this in the swordsmithing work of Patrick Barta but the size variation in the inlays themselves takes it way further. I need to find somebody to study under.

I will also be setting up a hot bluing tank very soon.

I shall be there too, with Julie and Curt introducing Julie's new BOOK,
and would like to meet as many of you as possible during these short 3 days!!!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)
