I think this would be the most appropriate section to put this in, if not please move it to the right one playa. I have a coldsteel warhammer and the spike side has gotten a little bit blunted from use on steel and brick. I was wondering what would be the best way to make it pointy and if it's even a good idea to have it that pointy. As it came from the factory it was already quite a sticker but I was wondering about making it "prick your finger" pointy. Even now it's quite dangerous to anything on the receiving end. Any warhammer love in here?

Just file a point back on there.Totally get it super fine, but just don't make the bevels of the point too narrow.

Yes, I have one of the CS warhammers too. It's quite the weapon, and I would not feel under armed with it!

Some slow and steady work with a coarse sanding sponge ought to do it. The spike doesn't need to be literally needle sharp. It's not a surgical instrument.

Although I hear it would work pretty well for involuntary brain surgery.:D

A fun mod of it is using a chainsaw file to crenellate the hammer face. The reduced surface area increases the force of the blow, but it's still spread out enough to not be likely to stick.

I had traded a piece to a friend for one of the Windlass war hammers that had been rehafted with part of a wheelbarrow handle. I then took a razor and used it as a scraper to rehape the kind of round to square barrow handle. The pictures don't show it well but the haft has eight flats from the cheeks to the head, then twelve in the middle and six at the butt. There is still some flair to the haft at the butt laterally but not show in these pictures.

Windlass had first discontinued this a few years ago but has brought it back. The haft as sold is fragile and the piece definitely more money than the Cold Steel but offers hsitoric aesthetic and many more facets.

As is now, the total length is 34". The top spike 3 3/4" The side spikes 3/4" The hammer to back spike 5 " Weight with this haft now is 2lbs 12ozs

It was polished bright when I got it with the pale barrow handle. I added a smidge of stain and age. It is aging more as time goes by and in just picking it up from the rusty corner, need to rub the fuzz off but it is looking great.

The hammer face has a sharp cusped face and all angles and bevels quite well ground.

Cheers
