Warm weather EDC?

Hello all.

The most distinguishing feature of bladeforums' members, as I see it, is their ability to carry a truly amazing amount of STUFF on a daily basis. Pen, knife, fixed blade, primary backup, secondary backup, keys, flashlite, photon, asp lite, tertiary backup folder, neck knife, credit cards, ID, 550 cord, and if there's any left after getting all that stuff - some money.

However, I have noticed that most resort to jacket pockets or cargo pants to carry this load.

How, if at all, does the warm weather effect your normal gear and gadget selection? More water, less fire?

Benjamin,

I used to carry a HUMUNGUS amount of gear every day. I mean 550 cord 3 or 4 knives, a ligher or 2, pens/pencils,watch,planner,asp baton,LED light, flashlight, handgun, cellphone, wirecutter, and or many other saundry watshits, batshits, midgits, widgets, and sidgets. As of late though I have cut back SEVERLY and learned to improvise more and yet still be prepared. In my line of work I need to be mobile and quick. It helps if your not weighed down by 15-20 pounds of things you won't necesarily need every day. All I keep on my person now is.

Omega Seamaster 300m automatic. Note: It will/should be delivered Monday
Microtech Vector M/A plain edge
Motorola V.60T cellphone on the AT&T nationwide netowork
Surefire D3 Defender
Wallet
Work ID
Fisher bullet pen w/ clip
Kimber 45ACP with Federal Hydrashoks

Hell I'd feel naked without the stuff!

Wave
Windmill Delta Lighter
Surefire E2

Gonna get a fixed custom job too just in case the Wave baulks at the job!

Cargo shorts are the way to go...

I have more of a problem in jeans -- not enough pockets and the front ones are kinda tight if you put much in them.

My Camillus Cuda CQB-2 as a neck-knife...Just in-case I'm walking around nekkid, without any pockets!.:D.:D.

Hmmm...warm or cold, I carry:

watch (today a WCT diver)
wallet
wedding ring
keys (w/ CPF edition ARC-AAA and LM Micra)
knife (today a S&M jigged bone whittler, but I alternate it with a small rosewood inlay classic sebenza or a spyderco mouse)
E2e (and an Inova X5 in my briefcase...actually the SF is often in there too)
lint
not enought hair on my head
heavy concious from blowing my retirement on toys... ;):D

I almost always wear pants, so i usualy dont have a problem. Every day i carry:

CRKT M18-02
Photon LED light(soon to be replaced with a ARC AAA and Innova X5 combo)
21" ASP Baton
Nokia 5160 Cell phone
Wallet
Zippo Lighter
And if its a work day either my CS SRK or Custom 4" Fixed blade.

If not at work i leave the fixed blade behind and take a PCKS Buck 110 instead in a belt sheath.

Never had a space problem before. Guess i dont have enough gear yet.

H&K Mark 23 Mod 0 SOCOM w/ Laser sight
Microtech SOCOM Elite clip point
SureFire C2 Centurian
Breitling colt superocean pro
Motorola V.60C

Whether its 20 or 120 degrees out.

I carry everything but the kitchen sink during the winter months, but trim down greatly come the warmer weather. I do a lot of warm weather walking, and just don't have enough clothing pockets to hide everything. I tried using utility pouches, belt pouches and fanny packs, but felt like too much of a girl when wearing them.

So during the warm weather months:
1. Wallet and comb
2. Primary folder of fixed blade (Sebenza or Blackjack Small)
3. Vic Cybertool 34 in belt sheath
4. Keys with Photon2 and ferro rod slung over belt
5. Space pen in shirt pocket

Anything more is just too darned heavy and bulky in the hot afternoon. I'm still trying to find an acceptable way to carry a cell phone.

Several different methods

Cold Steel Spike with neck sheath (dropped down my back)
Spyderco Calypso Jr with neck sheath
CQB2 with neck sheath (dropped down my back)

Dropped down the back would make getting a knife easy if someone demanded your wallet.

Also have done IWB with Spyderco Police model.

The minimum everyday carry for me:

Watch (currently a Seiko titanium chronograph)
Wallet (with a bare minimum of cards, photos, etc.)
Wedding Ring (makes a great bottle opener if you haven't tried it yet.)
Keys with Photon II attached
Whatever cash I have at the time - I try not to carry alot of change.
Small Sebenza
Surefire E1e or E2

This usually works for me in cold or hot weather. Cooler weather and wearing jackets allows a bit more EDC, depending on the situation. If I'm going somewhere with my small carry-all backpack, then the sky's the limit.

I've been able to resist pagers and cell phones so far. I really don't want to be tethered by one of them damn things.

On the job and at home.

Sinn EZM-2
Spyderco Lil' Temperance
Spyderco Moran featherweight
Surefire E1e for dress and D3 Defender for casual
Motorola V.60 with AT&T Nationwide Service

Daily, on person

> Samsung N105
> Money clip with dinero.
> Wallet w/credit cards, calling cards, 2 scalpel blades (#10, #11), antibiotic packet, bandaids.

My Daily Carry:

Small Sebenza or Benchmade Mini-AFCK
Palm Pilot Vx
Key ring with Photon 2
Surefire E2
Wallet (empty)
Samsung Uproar Cell phone and MP3 player

TornAdo

I've had my right forearm replaced with a hollow titanium prosthetic. It runs from just below the elbow to the wrist. It is just about the right size to carry a large folder, 20' of paracord, my Bulgarian/Latvian translating dictionary, a roll of quarters, my cousin's cell phone and a small bottle of Gatorade. For hot summer situations, there is a small solar powered cooling unit that actually works providing I can get 12 continuous hours of direct sunlight. I'm left handed, so the relative loss of mobility of my right hand isn't too much of a problem, except when frailing on a 5 string banjo, but considering my musical ability, that's not too much of a loss! One drawback is airline travel: have found it best to place it in checked baggage and just pin back my sleeve.

Just took it all out of my pockets...I don't wear shorts. Period. Jeans unless it's a wedding or a funeral.

Large Sebenza with green traser glowring split-ringed to the lanyard

House Keys with:
One of those cross telescoping bullet pens
Sterling Vee Sharpener
Herrington (I think) Pill Fob
Military Match (thanks to WarriorSociologist for finding me a couple)
White Photon Pump minilight
Swisstech Utilikey

Car Keys with:
Black Comtech Stinger
Blue Photon III minilight

Zippo Lighter, antiqued silver finish (I quit, but I can't bring myself to toss it)
Victorinox Soldier SAK
Wallet
Rite-in-the-Rain 3x5 pad

...and for some reason it doesn't look bulky.
