Even though I love a fine leather sheath for a knife, especially with a traditional design, I'm really growing more fond of kydex as a durable, practical alternative to leather. Since I've started working with it, it is becoming easier for me to make a "decent" looking sheath out of kydex. I've started experimenting making belt loops and attaching them to the sheath. I'm forming my own from strips of kydex. I use a 1/4" thick by 2" wide piece of steel to form the belt loop. I then drill 1/4" holes on the side to handle Chicago screws as a way to attach the belt loop. I've attached a couple of pics of a recent sheath I made for my WTK. I'm still working out the quirks, for example, this sheath should have been a bit wider. It works but would be better if wider as far a fit of the knife in the sheath. I wear it with the belt loop on the outside.

that does look pretty sweet. I think ultimately I will always prefer leather, but I still can appreciate a nice kydex sheath. I think that one would ride a bit too high for me, mainly due to my protruding love handles, but it's pretty nice overall.

Keep growing Scott, soon you'll master IT ALL!

Thanks Brett. It does ride high but with the width of the belt loop, it can be canted at an angle. The angle depends on the width of your belt.

Hey, that looks great, Scott!
It's very uniform - which is not always easyto do. That particular design complements the WSK and would the PSK Sr. too. I have not had the best luck doing two-piece sheaths but have a knife on the bench that needs to be done that way.

Hey, Brett, do you have an address for me?

That's pretty nice Scott. I have yet to work with kydex. Leather seems to be more forgiving, so that is what I work with. Besides, leather smells soooooooooooooo much better than warm kydex:D

Hi Jeff,

I believe I sent you an address for the next person this morning. Did it not come across?

Thanks!
Brett

Got it, Brett. NOt sure why it got hung up but, whenever it rains, my connection sucks and wierd stuff happens. I replied. Thanks.

IUKE12,..... I have never been able to just reheat leather and start over when I mess it up.:foot:

I'm glad your starting to work with kydex more, and it's looking good. Leather can never be replaced, but I think kydex is more ideal, it's easy to clean, light, versatile, and pretty damn indestructible.

Scott,

I got be honest with ya on this one.... looking at your PSK or WTK or PSK sr, the blades scream utility, I can do it all. So the Kydex is just fine. But when I look at your other work, like the Tuskers, well... they just deserve a fine leather sheath.

I dont know if I am expressing that correctly, but to me a fine leather sheath is a beautiful thing. :)

I like kydex sheaths but for me they have to have a Tec-Loc on them for me to play with !
