I always thought this would be a great idea. Even considered modifying one of mine. Anyone think a flat edge Cricket would be a great EDC? ft

I really like my stainless steel Cricket. The Spin is about the same size with the different blade. The handle looks pretty secure, too. Should be fun. Shirt pocket knives like these are convenient and efficient. And the Spin looks good with that web!

Nice looking little knife but, as one individual in the linked thread mentioned, the tip-down only carry will make life tough for right pocket carry. Of course this will not be an issue for shirt pocket or, loose pocket carry.

It looks like the Spin is much thicker and heavier than the Cricket. If you are looking for thinnest and lightest, than maybe go with the Cricket. But, I haven't handled a Spin yet, so I am just guessing.

Honestly, the reverse-S blade is one of the great selling points of the Cricket, IMO. It gives the tiny blade more utility (the shape tends to hold the stuff being cut onn the blade and keep it from slipping off), and it looks great with the roundness of the handle.

Plus, the blade shape contributes to what I think is the Cricket's best trait: its cuteness. I've had people refer to my freakin' _Kiwi_ a "weapon", but nobody's ever thought my girlfriend's Crickets were anything but adorable. The Cricket seems to hit this blindspot in ordinary people, where they don't even think of it as a knife. Major, major advantage in some environments.

'Course, if a wharncliffe blade really does suit you better, then more power to ya. As I recall, the "shoulder" Cricket's saber grind is already straight, so it should ba a relatively easy conversion. :D

The old Toad is also similar to what you are talking about. Its dimensions are very close to the cricket in every way except width.

Spyder Crickets.
The "best damn kept" secret of discrete steelwear, ever.
Man, it sure would be even better in titanium, IMHO.
(Yo! Let's keep the excitement down a minute)
My man, Sal ought to hear this one out.
The CRICKET would definately rock better if the SS handle had more positive contact built into it! A thumb rest area with some notches cut into the blade wouldn't be too bad an idea?

As light and compact as the stainless steel Cricket is now, there's not much to be gained by going to titanium.

I don't understand.

discrete

1) Constituting a separate thing.
2) Consisting of unconnected distinct parts.

discreet

1) Marked by, exercising, or showing prudence and wise self-restraint in speech and behavior; circumspect.
2) Free from ostentation or pretension; modest.

Ok you got me there partner!
Ahem!
"discreet"
1) Marked by, exercising, or showing prudence and wise self-restraint in speech and behavior; circumspect.

Shabat Shalom

Not to put too fine a point on it, but he's saying he wants a 100% titanium Cricket (blade and all) because titanium isn't picked up by some kinds of metal detectors.

That said, since modern gate-style and wand-style detectors are no longer ferrous-only, titanium really hasn't been "stealth" for some time. I guess maybe with such a tiny knife, the probability of tripping the alarm might be reduced, but who wants to take the chance?

Ti is lighter, I am in for a Ti frame, VG-10 blade Cricket.
Its a great knife and a good platform for tweaking.

What you want is what you want, but I just don't understand the concern for reducing weight in a knife barely bigger than a 50 cent piece. Oddly most folks don't like a knife unless it has some "heft".
