Dear Members,

We have recently become aware of a new wave of counterfeit Emerson Knives. The counterfeiters have definitely upped their game and are now using the same hardware (screws, etc.) the same logoing (including our patent #'s), our boxes, and our guarantees. And, they are copying additional models now.

We are in the process of securing some of these so we can take them apart to point out the differences and the ways to tell one of these new fake Emersons from a real one.

As I've stated these are highly accurate in appearance to the real knives so be aware that the price of these will be higher to mask the obvious low price, "red flag". Be aware that we sell very few, restricted models, to distributors so buying a discounted Emerson off of any E-Bay look alike website is almost a guarantee that it is fake. In fact, be very careful about the ones on E-Bay also.

My recommendation is that you buy Emersons only from dealers that you already know and trust or one of the Emerson Prestige Dealers that has been vetted by us.

We will update you as more information becomes available.

Best Regards,

Ernest R. Emerson

P.S. They are copying almost every other brand of knives and are using their names, patents, and logos also.

First time around here on the Emerson forum, but they're hitting CRK hard too. Emerson's right...they're def upping their game.

Only buy these knives from authorized dealers!

hello ernie,
always good advice on the fakes out there. i remember when the commanders were the only ones that you had to be worried about. a buddy bought one for grins to show as comparison with the real deal. blade was softer than margarine. lock up was as tight as a 10cent piggy bank. pure quality thru out. buyer beware, i guess. my advice is only buy from who you know. take care.

Could weight be a possible indicator? My CQC-8 weighs 5.85oz (166g), the website says it should weigh 4.6 oz. The rest of the knife looks like a real Emerson to me, at least there is nothing else making me skeptical. It`s a 2011 model.

Cheers

Welcome to the forums!

Try taking a magnet to the liner (The locking side) If it isn't magnetic, It should be the real deal, I doubt the chinese would use titanium on a fake. Good luck!

But then again you never know. A lot of the Chinese fakes still use titanium, but a cheaper grade of it. Maybe it has more impurities in it or something but it's not going to be magnetic.

Austenitic stainless steels are nonmagnetic. That test won't guarantee much.

True. 300 stainless is used a lot and it's not magnetic. I used to think it was pretty easy to tell the fakes. I've seen fake ZT's, Striders, Chris Reeve and others for sale on the web. The
packaging used to be a dead give away. I guess they're getting better. Once you pay for it and get burnt, "It's too late to check the serial number". People will continue to get screwed
as long as these scumbags ( a euphemism for a used condom) continue to sell the blatant fakes. Be educated and beware.

Both liners are non magnetic, the one on the lock side seems to be slightly darker in color and it is of course a bit thicker. So Titanium for the lock side and stainless steel for the non locking side seems plausible, so far everything is looking good.
But can anyone with a 2011 or 2012 CQC-8 compare the weight? I don`t think 34g on a knife like this can be production tolerances.
Maybe the 4.6 ounces on the web site are a bit optimistic?

All of the fake emersons i have encountered (Two to be exact) Have had a really cheap feel to them so i would imagine you would be able to tell the difference if you look hard. The darker liner is a good sign, i believe all of the emersons i have seen had a thicker dark titanium locking liner. You should also be able to tell by the finish of the blade. If you see a highly visible grind lines, It's probably a fake. Emerson finishes their blades very well in my experience.

If you want to send me a pic, I'd be more than happy to post it for you.
