I received my el cheapo Mtech USA's MT-304. There's warning label on package:

Warning:
This knife has en extremely sharp edge. Use caution when opening this package. And so forth.

What made me laugh is that out of box the knife was about as sharp as my butter knife which is generally as sharp as a spoon. I just wondered what was that extremely sharp blade I was warned about...

But anyways, 5 mins with hoaning stone and its nice and sharp now.

I had heard the Mtech is über-cheap knife manufacturer from China so I did not expected anything but blade opens smoothly, locks firmly. Blade does not wiggle anywhere. Handle seems sturdy and locking pretty good.

But as they say: When you don't expect anything, you won't disapoint... But still, I am not american but I understand in the states there are quite excessive usage of warning labels which are there to act against possible law suits. But still... I wouldn't label spoon nor butter knife with warning label about sharp edge... oh, well I think its kinda of advertisement aswell...

Yes lawyer talk .We just ignore it and sharpen the knife as we want.. Law suits here though are not a joke and it costs us all a huge amount of money.I was just told of a frivolous lawsuit that the insurance company paid out of court. It was significantly cheaper to pay out of court than to win in court [ $40,000 !! ] but we all end up paying.

I've heard stories of Burglar falling while breaking into house, got injured, sued the owner and wan the case... but that must be urban legend... bit like Cat in microwave...

There was a person who tried to break into a warehouse a few years ago in the Carson City area for whatever reason. When he climbed over the fence he got stuck on the barbed wire and was suspended from it. He sued for trauma... and won.
In America, people will sue for anything. The iPod shuffle was a "Warning, do not eat" label, so that should prove how frivolous people will get just to take a buck away from everyone else.

WARNING! When eating with this fine spoon, be sure to remove spoon from mouth before swallowing food.

:jerkit:

I bought one of those 7$ machete's from walmart not to long ago(just for fun, nothing to depend on) and they had a plastic blade guard, and a plastic circle to protect the tip...

I pull that thing out, I couldnt cut myself if I ran the damn thing across my neck. They had warnings like above saying sharp and etc but the things edge was so rounded it was said to call it an edge

From the way the owner of M-Tech has stolen knife designs as well as screwed others in knife manufacturing deals, I seriously doubt if consumer lawsuits are a major concern of his.

OTOH, some of the knives I've handled do come hair-popping sharp. I think it is purely luck though.

Better off not sharpening an Mtech, then it will be less likely to cut the garbage bag.

So I've heard. But at least I can give it to my knife-ignorant friend who doesn't have any folders and he has two knives: Good Finnish ranger knife from military and chines $5 rambo bowie knock off that can't cut air... Just guess which one he prefers *sighs*
