Warnings/Infractions for "Inappropriate Language"

Unless I am missing it (distinct possibility), nowhere is it listed in the T&C's/rules that swearing in open forums is prohibited. I've seen threads where people have used the common vernacular, and not been issued any warnings etc.

It would be helpful if the fact that swearing is not allowed was clarified in the rules. People cannot be expected to follow rules they are unaware of.

Good question. While we can't possibly list everything that you could possibly do to break the rules, here's a partial list.
Failure to follow Forum Specific Rules
Signature Rule Violation
Inappropriate Language
Insulted other members
Posting in the wrong forum
Bumping threads in violation to the no bump rules
Auction / Deal / Bargain Spotting
Minor spam
Trolling
Racism / Bigotry / etc
Selling without paying membership

Custom infractions

Inappropriate Language
Seriously, I can't believe I have to explain this, but here goes:

Some of the forums on BFC have few or no limits. You can talk about whatever you want, however you want, as long as it doesn't break the other rules.

Most of the forums aren't this way - So don't talk about how you did something disgusting to someone, somehow, in a forum that isn't set up for that.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO TALK IN A FORUM, LURK BEFORE POSTING

This infraction can be issued as a warning. It lasts for 10 days. It counts as 1 point towards your total.

Plenty of people swear here without issue. Most forums permit swear words, as long as you aren't being hateful/racist etc.

Thanks,

Using the F-bomb in the general forums is unacceptable.

The way i understand it is, we are all adults here, and should speak as if we are in polite/mixed company (which we are). Using vulgar language in the general forums, while not specifically prohibited, is not condoned and serves only to show the posters lack of manners and etiquette. It is a matter of respecting the forum, and those around you.

Each forum has it's own Moderators and their views on the subject, for example, in the forum i moderate we expect and prefer that posters will not use profanities in any form and that they should always do their best to be as polite as possible. This is out of respect for the nice lady and her late husband who run the forum and company, neither of whom use/used vulgar language while posting and should not have to see it from others while she is there.

Moderators can not be everywhere, read every post or catch every wrongdoing. The forum membership is expected to be mostly "self policing" and have enough manners and forethought to realise when and how using coarse language/mannerisms is appropriate.

I think there are a few unwritten/implied rules. People should not have to have everything spelled out for them. Someone recently used the f-word in a general forum that I frequent. I thought about reporting the post but decided to let it go. He later received a warning. He then apologized realizing his indiscretion. I am headed out to play golf in little while and I can all but assure you that I will use a few four letter words. But I will try my best not to do it within earshot of anyone who might not appreciate it. It's just common sense.

Agreed on all points. I edited my F-bomb out of my post.

I just wish I had known it was a no-no. Seeing other people swear etc, and having it not written in the rules, I had no idea it wasn't kosher.

Hopefully I didn't offend anyone with my vulgarity.
