after a quench on a 2 1/2" long piece of 0-1 that is 1/8" thick it has warped slightly. It is in the oven now at 500 degrees. When done I will decide whether to try and straighten it or grind it flat again. How does everyone else handle this?

You have a VERY short period after quench that you can still straighten any warping, i was always told that if you go to temper with it its already too late! When hardening i always try to take out any warpage as soon as i can handle the peice with 3 rods in the good ole bench vise. Anything after the tiome that the steel has transformed you take a chance of cracking or breaking the steel. Its amazing how easy the stuff bends right after it is quenched!!!

Thats just the way i was told and the way its been working for me!!

Let us know how it works out for ya!

I use O-1 most of the time, and it is very forgiving.I would anneal it,fix the blade and re-heat treat.I have done this before with no ill effects to the steel.I also use a torch for treating my O-1.I differentially temper my blades. Dave
