Hi Sal. What, if any stated warrantees are there for factory seconds? Since I believe the nature is cosmetic only and that they are still mechanically sound.

Thank you Sal for responding. I think this is a consideration for those who may think about purchasing them.

But would Spyderco fix or adjust them for minimal cost to the owner?

SUL, Sal has mentioned that at least once a year, the Spyderco facility holds a "seconds" sale in the parking lot area that is opened to the public. These are knives that didn' t quite make it thru CQ. They are mechanically sound knives but have some (cosmetic?) imperfections. But Sal knows better than I.

PS- some seconds also show up once in a while on the 4 sale forums.

FYI, the seconds are in great shape! Spyderco does "mark" the seconds with a small notch cut into the blade by the Spyderhole. I see them at Colorado Gunshows and often the dealer tries to pass them off as used. These are great deals and I have to look hard to find the imperfection.

SUL, as mentioned there are a few popping up on the 4 sale forums as of late. If you are diligent in monitoring you may find a few that may suit your tastes. Be sure though, to verify their condition as Sal has stated that they are not covered under warrantee. I recently picked up a G10 Harpy at an attractive price.

Nakano - we're currently considering a fee for "repairs". This might include 2nds.

Warrantees afe designed to cover factory defects. We find that most of the repairs that we end up with are more on the "abuse" end than factory defects.

Repairing knives for "free" really isn't "free". The repairs must be built into the original sale price of the product. The more repairs that a factory makes, the higher price they must charge for the item. Finding the balanced "trade off" is difficult.

To repair a 2nd as though it were new means a loss. When the losses exceed the income. The company goes out of business and the product is no longer available.

Understood Sal. Similarly no one can stay in business for long if they sold their merchandise for only dollars above cost and included a product warrantee from their establishment. It just won' t happen. Unless in rare instances of non existent overhead/ maintenace costs.

The idea of considering repair fees for seconds is a positive. Thanks.
