There's been some confusion and unrest about the reason for my new
warranty document that I posted
a few days ago. I had to have a new, current warranty written to stop
the abuse a few customers were heaping
on my business by taking advantage of Himalayan Import's generosity.

In the past, when people abused their blades and then asked for a new
replacement, I would send it, hoping
this practice would stop. But it did not stop and got far more common
with a few customers. Be assured that I
know that 99% of HI's customers are honest and loyal. But, those
few dishonest customers and their attack
on my business made the policy change a necessity.

I am still the same person I have always been and will serve you all
with my honesty, integrity and loyalty. I do not
want any of you loyal customers and friends to be confused by the new
warranty. If it was not for you and your
support, HI and the Kamis would not be in business.

I truly appreciate each and every one of you who have been loyal to HI
over the years.

That sounds absolutely fair to me, Yangdu. You have every right to protect your own assets, and this warranty policy is more than reasonable. We all appreciate your explanation. rest assured that we are here with you. Your loyal and appreciative customer base will always be eager to snap up your fantastic offerings:D:thumbup:

It's sad that a couple of bad apples had to turn what used to be a handshake deal in one that requires a contract, but such is the way of the world. It doesn't make me one bit of difference. Himalayan Imports will always be where I get my big ol' choppers:thumbup:

Bravo Yangdu!!
You need to protect yourself and business.
I'm quite sure that Honest and Good people who know how to treat a blade in the proper manner will agree with and stand behind you and H.I.
While i hate to see a good thing change, i also hate seeing it abused, just as i hate seeing generousity being abused and taken for granted. All things in life change, It is their nature.

Ms Yangdu in the few years I have bought khukuris from your company, I have never had any reason to doubt your integrity.

The warrantee change is not going to change how I use my khukuris. I reckon since I haven't broken any of them in 4 years I must be using them correctly.

I use 'em but I don't abuse 'em. I cherish the things.

And I will continue to buy from HI.

I said it before and I'll say it again, the level of customer service HI offers is second to none. I have complete faith in Yangdu and the products HI sells.

Yeah, what he said.

I don't know if this is theright place to post this, but here goes. A few months ago I ordered a tarwar for a friend and co-worker. He lives on a boat on Galveston Island. He helps out the marina owners repair the hurricane damaged docks where his boat is parked. He told me today that he used the tarwar to chop through what he thought was electric cable. Turned out it was 3/16 stainles wire with a rubber coating. NO damace to the cutting edge. He then said he used it to chop some creosote pilings and bent the blade at the guard. Knowing that he used the blade for tasks for which it was not intended, he has no complaints, and is satisfied with this tarwar.

Yangdu, your abusers are just accumulating negative karma while you get the good karma.

Thank you so much.

I think the old timers, and some of us new-timers understood the reason.
I don't even see this as a big change, I thought a lot of the time you went above and beyond the written word of the old warranty with some of the blades you replaced.

It's just a shame that some dipdunks had to pee in the pool, so to speak.

Yangdu?

Just relax. It's fine. No problem whatsoever exists.

Enjoy the sensation of being above reproach and having helped Ram, Sgt Karda, the kamis, the community in which they live and work, and a large number of customers around the world experience not only the integrity of the H.I. khuks, but the integrity of the Person who operates it.

I agree. Honest buyers and users will see NO difference. Yangdu, being a very trusting and generous person, gave away some knives to some losers and fraudsters who sought to take advantage of her generosity by making claims based on the warranty.

The only change is that this practice of benevolent generosity to stupid thieves has ended.

I like the newly defined warranty, and the only phrase in it that really matters is this one: "All Warranties are at the Discretion of Himalayan Imports, Its Owners and Staff."

Everything else in the warranty is superseded by the above statement.

I trust Yangdu and her discretion.

Anyone who doesn't shouldn't be here and definitely should NOT buy a Himalayan Imports product.

I understand completely, Ms. Martino, and I'm sorry if I've given you the impression (e.g. with a thread that I recently started) of being "confused," or of disapproving of a perfectly sound, necessary business decision. I'm behind the new warranty 100%; I'm just trying to translate it into some working guidelines, so that I don't make a dumb mistake.

I'm just going to start posting, "What Kis said." even before he says it;) Well said.

Thank you all for your trust and continue supports to HI and Kamis

Right on! I know Auntie will do the right thing for her customers. The more defined warranty is just setting the lower bar where it needs to be to minimize damage from the jerks in the world, it's not an upper limit.

I'm not always in evidence, but Aunt Yangdu has my full trust and support.

Not many folks do, anymore.

And two more things, in case we have forgotten:

1) Some of us collect these khuks and don't use them all the time. They are works of art that you can't get from a production company, and

2) Given their thick spines, beefy blades and the method of manufacture, they will withstand a lot more than production knives costing 2 and 3 times as much.

I don't think the warranty is an issue, but I know it will be there for legitimate issues. And if I actually do break my bonecutter, I will keep the pieces as a trophy and just buy another at what is a very, very reasonable price.
