Warranty Question

Being the season of bonfires, I was batoning some pieces of firewood with my BK9 in preparation for a small gathering and noticed afterwards that the blade had some big chips taken out of it; not sure if I hit a nasty knot or what but was quite surprised since this is my favorite knife and I use it quite a bit. I'm just curious if this is covered under the knife's warranty or not, I was using a piece of wood to baton as you're supposed to.

KA-BAR will likely tell you no. Ethan Becker will tell likely tell you yes. And we forum members will tell you to present pictures of the damage for consideration.

Here's the picture, like I said I have no idea what I hit in the wood that would have done this and actually didn't even notice it until I got inside and took the knife out of the sheath.

I think you have a strong case for replacement, but that is not my department. We have a group here that takes a look at each returned knife and determines cause of break and if the knife qualifies for replacement under our warranty (note: many that send their knives in have not read the warranty that comes packaged with the knife). It is always best to make contact, as you have here, before sending a knife. Please send the knife to us at the address below:

Thanks, we will do our best to get you squared away.

What kind of wood, if I may ask. Looks to me like you hit a knot, neither kabar or becker steel has ever failed me..except with hemlock or a knot.
