Hi everyone. I just picked up my first Chris Reeve knife a few weeks ago, a large sebenza 21 insingo, and I love it so far. My question is, Ive been looking into getting the handles and clip anodized, but will that void the warranty?
Thanks, Joe

Technically, yes. However, as long as you don't do any damage to any of the parts, how much warranty are you really going to need? CRK may charge you a reasonable fee to replace washers, screws, pivot bushings, what have you, but, I doubt they will leave you entirely to your own fate because you bedazzled your scales.

My opinion is, the quality is baked in. Use it for its intended purposes and you'll never need a warranty.

What I'm mostly worried about is not being able to send the knife in for a spa treatment if I were to want the snail trails cleaned up.

They will do it on a "case by case basis". They will need to see the knife in order to answer the question. If you round the corners off, etc, they won't touch it. If they can blast it and make it like new again, you should be fine. Regardless, your best bet is to call and ask.

Spa treatment after anodizing doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I may be missing things. I assume you mean color anodizing. Spa treatment usually involves re-blasting the scales and clip, which at best would remove the anodizing. At worst, you might wind up with a splotchy mess. In any case, your best source for info is CRK itself, not us.

Yes I understand where you're coming from. I'm banking on them being able to take the anodized color off if need be. I just want to have the option if I need to sell the knife a few years down the road to get it shaped up back to stock and like new in order to sell for a decent price.

My question, and this is far from anything I've got any expertise with, is whether they'd have to blast the scales so heavily to remove the color anodizing that they will be unable to provide warranty coverage due to concerns about material removed from the scales. The only way to find out is to call and ask.
