Hey folks. I recently acquired a Small Sebenza Classic in a trade. It's got a custom G-10 scale on it. I was wondering if this modification will void the factory warranty. It didn't come with any paperwork and it's the only Chris Reeve knife I own so I'm not sure what the rules are. Also, can these be sent in for 'refurbishing' just in case I ever decide to actually use it. I'm afraid to take it out until I get this stuff figured out. THanks!!

I dare say since its had pieces replaced with non standard parts the warranty is out the window.

If you have the original Ti slab then you can send it in for a referb. I dont know if they will touch it other wise.
If you dont have it I think you can still buy a replacement Ti slab from CRK.
(A referb. would not come under "warranty work" and has to be payed for any way, so .....)

And where are the pics of your new knife ??? :p

To be honest if there is one knife you probably wont need to use the warranty on its a Sebenza !
The knife you have should be used and will take alot of use.
You can even send it to someone like STR to have it looked at if you do have problems.

The only thing I would be worried about is the stop pin sheering the G-10. If you're gentle it shouldn't be a problem. But it would concern me personally.

Send CRK an e-mail stating you fell down and bumped your head, which caused you to purchase a modded Sebbie. Include in the e-mail that you want the knife converted to the original configuration, with their assistance. :D

I agree. Email CRK and explain your situation. If there is anyone that will help you out its CRK. It wont hurt to try it.

I think I might do that. I got the original scale in the mail today from the guy I traded with. He drilled 3 and a half holes in it trying to make it lighter. I guess on the fourth attempt maybe his bit got dull. It looks like hell. He did tell me this before but I was hoping it wouldn't be so bad. :(

You've gotta wonder what type of person drills holes in the scales of a Small Sebenza in the hope of making it lighter.

I think he was hoping to "Mayonise" it.

Is there any chance of it being cleaned up by someone who knows what there doing ?
Or is it just a total disaster ?

If the only aftermarket part is the G10 top slab, and you want warantee coverage, and you want a clean Ti top slab, then just buy one from CRK.

This would not be a very good reason not to use a knife that you otherwise would.

Also, if there's nothing mechanically wrong with the knife, it will likely never need refurbishment. Not really sure what you're getting at there. Some people want to get the top slabs blasted, but that would not be an issue with the G10 slab. Are you thinking you'll want to get the blade refinished? That's a pretty minor issue. You could always just pay for it.

Theres no chance of getting it cleaned up. Unless one were to cut out all the holes by putting one long hole down the length of the handle. I'm not really sure why I'm so concerned with all this. I appreciate everyones input. I think that I will check with CR knives and see what the price of a new slab is. If it is affordable enough for me I will get one, if not I wont. Either way I've decided f it, I'll use it! That is, after all, what they are designed for.

The holes drilled in the handle is a mod. some people like.

If its done well with even spacing etc. it can be quite a sort after mod.

I Mayonised a knife "similar to the Seb" for a friend just a few weeks ago.

Thats what I thought and thats what I was hoping for when I heard about it but they are not evenly spaced or cleanly drilled. The fourth one isn't finished either. I wonder if you could do anything with it? :) I just sent an email to Chris Reeve Knives with my questions. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

I might be able to do something to fix it up, but you can't polish a turd as they say.:p

Send me a pic of the scale in an e-mail if you want and il have a look.

Cooool thanks! I'll wait to hear back from CRK and see what they say first. What is your email address?

Click on my name and just send an e-mail through blade foums
