I've got a Howling Rat on it's way to me from a trade. It's not got here yet, but I know from the description of the knife that it has been stripped and sharpened by Scott Gossman. My question is, will this affect the warranty? Thanks.

Stripping and hand sharpening does not void your warranty, but if it was modded by machine there may be an issue.
Eric will tell you for sure, but they are incredibly tough knives and the warranty is rarely used on any of them...

None of the Mods can give me an answer? Man, this forum really needs more activity...

Steelnut gave you the answer! Mods arent always necessary for the right answer, some of us have been around long enough to have seen what does and doesnt pass for acceptable. The Swamps warranty stated on the site says it all, you make the warranty. Its on an honor system, but I do know that heavily modified blades wont be warranteed.

Yours is not an uncommon question LeeCQC. Steelnut's response is drawn from experience of previous Mod replies. Either the previous owner or your visual inspection upon receipt of the knife should tell you whether it had been modified by machine or hand sharpened. Thanks, guys. I dont -think- it's been machine-sharpened, but I highly doubt I'll ever have to use the warranty, anyways. This thing is a tank!

Be careful using any machine and keep the steel cool/warm. If you mess up the heat treatment by getting the blade too hot you can void the warranty.
