Is it true that flicking a CRK such as a Sebenza will void the warranty. If it is true, why cant you flick it open? Will it damage the knife in any way? I believe that if I am going to spend $400 dollars on a knife then the warranty better allow me to open the knife any damn way I please.

No it wont void the warranty.

It is simply not advised. All folding knives will develop blade play if you flick it long enough. If you dish out $400 wouldnt you want your knife to last a long time?

When i called CRK warranty the first thing they asked me is if I flicked open the knife.

I've been thumb flicking knives since one handed opening knives became available (Spydie hole, thumbstuds, discs, etc,) and never had one develop blade play (decent quality knives). I can see if you own only one knife to play with; then you could probably wear it to the point of blade play. Wrist flicking as opposed to thumb flicking is pure abuse as it generates gobs of speed which = greater impact on all bearing surfaces. That being said my CRKs and customs are only flicked to see if it can be done if need be, once this is established they are opened w/o flicking.:D

Did anyone's sebenza actually develop blade play because of flicking or is this more of a philosophical discussion?

All knives will, everything tangible will deteriorate overtime.

However, I have never heard about a Sebenza developing play, it will take a loooooong time even if you were flicking it. Once it does it will be hard to fix I think.

The Sebenza is the first knife I paid over $50 for so maybe I'm pretty ignorant about high quality knifes.

I can understand that giving it as much wrist action as you can to make the click as loud as possible is an unnecessary abuse but when I give the the stud just a slight push with my thumb the blade gently flicks open. If that really breaks the knife then I guess I've just spent over $300 to find out that I was looking for something that doesn't exist and I will have to remorsefully return to my old and wobbly victorinox :(

I'm really glad to hear that because I can't stop playing with my new toy :)

Chris Reeve approves of thumb flicking a Seb open with no wrist action.
A gentle thumb flick open is the same as using two hands IMHO.

I have a beater 1999 BG42 that's been used pretty hard daily and still smooth
as silk. I always thumb flick it open. Blade play is not going to happen on a Seb.
I lube it with Mineral oil and touch up the blade on a fine ceramic stone weekly.

Was watching the Miami-Florida St game yesterday (what a great game!) and
was touching up/lubing my knives, must have flicked the Seb open for an hour.
Wasn't even thinking about the knife.

No blade play, perfect lock-up, most simple and reliable folder I've ever owned.
