I am considering buying a CRK and I was just wondering about the warranty. If I buy a used CRK, does the warranty follow the knife? I read the warranty on the CRK website and it says that is covers the original owner. I thought that you get a knife registration card when you purchase a CRK and that is how they know who the owner is. I just read a thread about n2wilderness' problem with a umnumzaan and I think he bought it used and sent it in for repair and it was covered under warranty.

I have never had a problem sending them in and being covered. They have even done some extra work for no charge.

CRK has (IMO) the best warranty in the business. The knives are completely repairable. You see knives that are 5, 10, 15 years old looking like new for minimal charge.

I made it clear to CRK that I was sending it in after purchasing it on the secondary market. They never said anything to me about it and repaired the knife under warranty with the only bill being return shipping $13.

They never asked for a receipt or anything. I've had a couple used knives in for repair with no problems.

Same here, I've made it very clear that I wasn't the first owner, hence any issues with adjusted locks, blades, or abuse that needed to be fixed, would be on my dime. No issues performing work on used knives so far.

I'll contest that. Bark River has the best warranty. They don't even charge you to give the knife a spa treatment.

Neither does CRK.

They do charge for re-blasting the handles or tumbling the blade, but that's refinishing. The quality of a warranty is not what they will do for free, it's the integrity of the company standing behind their products.

+1 on that BBQ, when Heather got the Zaan she told me they would also be doing the maintenance on it (which I'm guessing included cleaning and sharpening). Perhaps they charge when they are not doing warranty work??

I didn't know they didn't charge for that but charge to blast and tumble. Bark River is just a company as you described CRK to beThey are no less of a company in my experiences. They charge absolutely nothing for any kind of service.

I have never read/heard anything but positive comments about folks sending their CRKs in for work -- warranty or not, original owner or not, they'll take care of ya'! And even if there is a charge, it will be quite reasonable in relation to the value of the knife.

I'm not saying they are worse! :) I'm simply saying that you can't judge warranty by what a company gives you for free.

If I buy a car with a dud engine and they replace it for free with another dud engine it doesn't exactly make it good CS.

Ugghhhh!!!! If I decide I want my Barkie completely refinished just because I feel like it I can send it in and have it done at no charge.
