Warranty turnaround time?

I sent in my new Chinook I for service (very uneven swedge) about 2 months ago and am not sure when to expect it or a replacement back. Is there a point where I should start wondering if it was lost? I understand that email replies are not to be expected in this busy season given the small staff (one person?) responsible for repair/replacement, so I thought I'd tap the collective knowledge of the forumites for guidance. Thanks.

BTW, I got a gray Calypso Jr last week from NGK, and it's great. Like most others, I highly recommend it. It's not quite as dark as the pictures made it seem.

I waited two months to get my knife back, this included shipping time. I think it's just the busy time of year, I've heard of people receiving their knives back in a couple of weeks, just a day at the factory.

I think Mike's being snowed under. Mine was received by Spyderco on 1st December and I've still not received it back, altho' I've heard from Mike (a week ago). I hope to get it back soon.

I guess I won't worry about it then. If 3 months rolls around, then I'll start wondering. Thanks for the replies.

I was under the impression that Mike was caught up. If you don't receive it it a couple of days, I would call Mike.

hi Sal,
Thanks for dropping by in this thread. I've emailed Mike again a couple of days ago cos he said it would be looked at 2 weeks back but I haven't heard from him back. Mine's a ti lum tanto with a dull edge and liner rub problem.

I do understand that running a omo is difficult. I was originally hoping to get it back in December but Joyce did tell us to be patient and to allow for 5-6 weeks.

What should I do next? Been missing that knife for awhile now....

Thanks again.

I don't really feel like bugging Mike on the phone but my email's been unanswered. Having worked in the service industry, I can emphatise on how it feels to get multiple emails querying the status of a project. At times, it's easier for someone to just walk over and ask. But the thing is, I'm in a totally different timezone and calls are expensive.

Sal, is there any other way I can check on the status of my ti lum tanto - I would really like it back soonest possible.

My email is: karnali@asia.com

Thanks in advance.

I've been waiting for three months !! I returned my CF Police in mid October. To date, I have sent two e-mails and left three messages on their voice mail. No reply yet.... :(

same here

my Perrin Bowie was sent to Golden on Nov. 14th
till today no update - no knife
I don't even know if Mike received it or not :(

Thank you for the advice, Sal, didn't mean for you to have to participate in this thread. I left a message with Mike yesterday, and my knife apparently shipped out today. No hard feelings. Thanks again.

One tip about emails: Mike has told me that he gets hundreds of SPAM per day and has a hard time wading through and getting to the important ones. I recommended some spam filter software for him, but he's not an IS/IT kinda guy.

looks like I have to scrounge up some cash and call long-distance...

I received my knife back today.

Thanks Mike.

Wanna know a funny thing....the accompanying letter was signed off as "The Crew, Warranty & Maintenance" :D

Got my Chinook back yesterday. It's great, nice symmetrical grinds and ridiculously sharp. But after waiting so long and seeing so many other good knives on the horizon I thought it best to just let it go on ebay for a loss. I guess a knife just can't hold my interest for that long when out of sight. Does anyone else lose interest in knives that have been sent off for repair to the point that they just sell or trade them when they come back?

macarthu, I know what you mean. but I've decided to keep my lum tanto, after making right the blade rub myself (using the bend the scales method - it really works!).

I really need to sell some of my knives to pay for the custom I bought. but I love all my knives! how?

I wanted to report back to add that I finally spoke with Mike. It seems that they've been having problems with the Carbon Fiber. Anyway, they made things right by sending me a new SS police model as a replacement.
