There is a Warren Old Faithful hatchet on ebay right now. I have had one for many years and they are excellent hatchets. I have no connection to this sale, only thought somebody here might be interested.

I've had a couple and very much like the shape of the head.

Yes, the geometry is perfect. The temper is just the way I like my hatchets, except for my carving hatchets. A USA made Simonds file will just barely cut the steel and is almost trying to skip off.

It's a dandy alright. Hatchets are my greatest weakness and I could spend lots of money on them. Unfortunately I don't have lots of money.:o

The one I saw was $29.99. It went off some time this morning without a bid, so maybe it will show up again. The one for $49.99 is a different head pattern and not in as good condition.

Yeah, that one looked rough. I would drop a tubman on her but not $50

If you want to look at the hatchet I saw, go to ebay advanced search, type in "Warren old faithful hatchet", click on completed listings and then search, it should come up.
This just worked for me and I am really bad using the computer.

Not only are the Warren old faithful line good, they are pretty collectable as well. I own a couple three of them.

The big one caught my fancy. I don't need it and it was expensive.

The other one that Old Axeman was taking about reminds me of the old Kelly Quality stamped hatchets. Looks very much like it. Great geometry with a thin bit but my Kelly is not that hard.

Just looked at ebay and the $29.99 Warren hatchet is back up. I hope it finds a good caretaker.

I'll take good care of her :D. Some gentle wire brushing, few coats of BLO and putting her to work are in plan. She'll switch continents, but will arrive here thru a good friend, so I paid domestic shipping.

Always wanted a good hatchet, it will probably retire some of my thick machetes for less springier stuff. Being an "Old Faithful" is icing on cake, she has a bigger, older sister here. Was just too nice to pass up.

Thank you for the heads-up, as well as for sharing knowledge. I just got the Norton Utility File, the one with al coarse sides only only (JD2), after a post of yours. I have a feeling I will like it for stuff that is hard or would dull a file for other reasons (such as a less than perfectly cleaned up shovel).

Ha, I was going to bid on it if it went the distance without getting bid on again, but I saw it had a bidder and suspected it was someone from here. Congrats

Thanks, Beachlogger. I'll send some glamour shots once I get it. (I very much should send Agent_H a few as well, but I'm waiting for some nice handles, and have my hands full with other stuff in the mean time.)

Square_peg, I have no idea - regardless of the weight class, I had an itch to upgrade over my "German-named-oh-surprise-it's-Chinese" one bought for peanuts at the flea market a while ago. Old Axeman may know?

My Old Faithful hatchet has a 13.5 " haft. The total weight with haft is 1.5 lbs. Poll to bit is 5.2". The bit, toe to heel, is 3.25" It has a high center grind.
