Warren Thomas Knives or similar for EDC?

I can't quite figure out what his knives are for. I mean, people insist that it's purely for self-defense. And yet, why would anyone knowingly carry a $400+ knife to defend themselves with? Might as well just give the perp your wallet because it's worth less than the knife.

I'm mostly interested in Warren's knives because carbon fiber/G10 laminated with the blade is something new and exotic to me. And it looks like something that would certainly impress others more than a plain jane Sebenza, while not being quite as scary as Yuna's knives due to the material and flashy anodized titanium.

Are they truly incapable of utility use due to the design? I've wondered if the blade would be completely maintenance-free due to the carbide edge. A few of the folders also seem to have titanium screws and pivots, which would make them completely rust-proof and maintenance-free(cut into an apple and leave it unwashed for a week).

Though I'm mostly curious if anyone else used similar designs. Seems like it would be nice to have a huge lightweight knife in something like S90V laminated with carbon fiber and carbon fiber handles.

Other than sharpening, they seem pretty maintenance free, at least the fixed blades. The folders won't rust neither of course, if there isn't any steel at all in the knife, but you might still have to take the knife apart some time and clean it, if you treat it so badly that you get dirt in the pivot and the moving parts :).

I definitely don't think they're completely useless for utility work. That sounds like something that one of the hard use fan boys would say. I mean, you probably shouldn't baton it through a log or anything, but if you use it for regular everyday cutting tasks, you should be fine. Use it like a Spyderco and not like a Busse. The excessive light weight should make it nice for EDC as well.

Intended use would be light EDC tasks, mostly food processing. I have my Para2 in S90V for cardboard, rope, and other harsh cutting. I don't really have much use for "hard use", just kind of curious how long the edge will last for mundane tasks. It would mostly be a knife to impress others, though I like having some level of usefulness even for such safe-worthy knives otherwise I don't carry them.
