To everbody who helped me with advice I offer sincere thanks....

I got lucky today with UBBB. The Chiruwa by Kumar found me, and now it is coming home.It will be the first of many I am sure.

We all have the list of Khukuris we are waiting for.

For now my quest for steel is over. Until tomorrow when the magical box arrives.

Wendy is as excited as I am...she has dibbs on the next m43 that finds us.

Thanks,
Shane

Good choice. I don't know if this is true (Raghorn Swears it is) but some say the Chir AK cuts as well as the 18" AK.

It's one of those happy debates anyway, where no one loses.

It's going to be fun when you get it and we listen to a knifemaker's reaction to the Kamis.

I think you're really gonna dig the chiruwa AK, Shane.
I just got one made by Kumar a couple weeks back, and it is by far the most fearsome khuk in my collection. I love Kumar's work. he's gotta be my favorite kami. due to work and the nasty weather, i havent had a good chance to try it out. Nonetheless, the thing feels like it has a heartbeat. It was quiet at first, but after a texture sanding on the horn and a nice acid dull-down of the blade, it seemed to just awaken. i know it sounds nuts now, but you'll see what I mean :D. Anyway, enjoy it. Thats one sharp lookin Khuk with the wooden slabs! Let us know your first impressions!

Well fellas the list got bigger.

A Gelbu Speial and a M43 are next...

then a Dui CHirra...probably an 18" AK in there somewhere...

Thanks for all the good words.

Shane

Shane, this is probably way late, but has anyone asked you what you intend to do with these khuks? That might determine the order of purchase. If big chopping was in order...

Yup, the chiruwa's a choppin' machine, both of mine outcut my 18" AK. My first two khukuris were a chiruwa AK and an 18" Gelbu Special. Neither were blems and both are users. You're headed down a slippery slope... ;)

... and it's called Mt. Everest, and the slide started at the top, and it ain't over til you hit bottom.

Munk,
I started with the idea of buying a Khuk as a learning tool. One, to understand the dynamics, so I can improve as a smith and maker. Two, to use as a tool.
What will I use it for? Hunting fishing, camping, chopping in the yard, rough carving wood stock for handles and anythinig else I can dream up. BTW, the Gelbu is next on my list...or on the slopes.

Shane I have some good advice for you.;) No really.:) ...If you want an ideal tool for roughing out handles snag yourself one of the little 12" AK's, preferably a villager!!!! :D
I dragged my feet for a long time on getting one of them as I couldn't really see that I had any use for one, but Sarge and the others kept bragging them up so I thought, "What the hell." and got my two through a couple of trades.
I have both an HI model and a BirGhorka Village model.
The BirGhorka Village model has a wood handle that fits me better and is more comfortable and of course not nearly as slick as the horn handled HI model.
I had the honor of making an Eagle Fan for a brother recently for both ceremonial and dance use and I used the little 12" AK to do some very precision chopping on the intricate and curvy Western Red Cedar handle.
The recurve part of the edge was used as a draw knife and scraping tool.
It was only when I got down to the real precision part of the carving that the thick edge got in the way and I had to resort to a very thin, flexible and much narrower knife.
I don't think a 12" Sirupati would work nearly as well for such a task as it doesn't have the extra weight and the 15" Sirupati I have would've been too long for the task.
The 12" AK has more uses than it first appears and is an excellent size for a camp knife as well.:D

Yvsa, your absolutely correct, I honestly agree...Every time I go in the garage I seem to be pulled towards that 12"AK.
Sarge did speak highly of them, but had warned of possible neglect to the other Khuks. Unbelievable how true it is...;)

as for your statement:

...I hope you don't have Internet access on two PC's at home :D :D

Congrats on your 1st HI 'family member'...
