hello, another question--sorry. are warthog tusk solid or hollow inside. i checked and tried to call a few dealers but they are closed--marekz

Hollow. I find them hard to use as yoiu must have a very large one unless you are using the entire tusk as a handle. Cutting scales out of one, for example is difficult. It is very hard stuff though and makes good handle material. Hippo tusk even harder.

well i meany when i see a picture of a warthog tusk--i cant see down into it. so i was wondering if it is hollow.. would it have to be filled with epoxy to make a suitable hidden tang knife.. or is it solid all the way through were i would have to drilll a hole for the tang---Thankmarekz

They are solid, once you get by the root. You would have to drill for the tang. I making a knife with one now. ;)

Sounds like IG is having better luck finding good ones than I am! There was a good supplier on ebay before they got weird about certain animal products that had super high quality stuff and great prices. I'll have to check out gunbroker.

Just in case you do end up with some hollow ones, be prepared to cut off a bit at the top... it can be VERY thin. Some of the better tusks I've had have been maybe 75-80% solid... many others probably about 60%. At any rate, they look great when finished... the hardest part for me was getting everything to line up to an organic form.

Does anyone know if it is legal to ship warthog tusks into Canada? Or where I can find information about this?
