Slash through double rollled tatami mats with CS Natchez bowie. Is that pretty impressive for 11.5" blade or is that to be expected?

If you are saying you cut through on one swing, then yes, it is quite good, especially for such a short blade. I wonder if a 12" blade, no matter how sharp, could generate sufficient force to cut through a double mat with one swing. If however, you cut though it with repeated swings, that's a whole different, and lesser level.

1 swing, I should have specified.

You also have to remember that even though the blade is only a foot long , it is has a dramatic curve and belly. The is no straight line on the edge, It's 5/16" ground down to a full flat grind. The geometry is made to split and separate materials .

IMO it says more about your ability than so the blade you were using. It's much easier to do that with a longer blade.
