Was I just lucky? Evidently not. A positive post on a super Adamas purchase.

Based on the chatter here on the forums I ordered a Benchmade Adamas last week. I read enough positive on this item that I decided to risk my usual luck & purchase a 275 sight unseen from a BF advertiser and disregard an unsatisfactory Benchmade purchase late in the last century.

I then traveled to the "big city" for an shooting event & visited a Sportsman's Warehouse. I handled about a half dozen Benchmade Axis lock models & found everyone had a significant side to side play that would have precluded my purchase even if they had been sharp. I got a sinking feeling & kept my fingers crossed.

I picked up my mail this AM including the Benchmade Adamas.

Now I'm a critical old buzzard & have owned several CRKs, Striders, & top of the line in about every brand and a few customs. The Adamas I received is on a par with the best of them for solid lock, centering, sharpness, fit & engineering at a price point that is very easy to live with. Out of the box it would push cut the thin receipt paper that spits out of gas pumps & shave hair easily. In looking at the edge & running it over a thumb nail I could tell it was toothy.

I decided to give it a spin on my sharpmaker & tried working it at thirty degrees inclusive. I worked through the diamonds, grey, & finished on the white. My fear & loathing of Benchmade D-2 is now a vague memory. My previous Benchmade D-2 blade had me speaking in tongues. However the heat treatment on this latest product is great & is deserving of a review by itself. I handled a Dozier D-2 several weeks ago that appeared new & this Adamas D-2 seems to be just as keen or maybe more so.

In closing I want to thank everybody who contibuted to the discussions on this Adamas Model and posted reviews & testimonials. If I wasn't a member here at BF I wouldn't be enjoying this product now. Thanks All.

I just ordered my Adamas on Fri so it should be here tomorrow. I hope my experience with it is as positive as yours!

Glad you're happy man, but no pics?! Come on! :D

I heard they were awesome, but I have a feeling they'd be too thick for me.

It's getting harder and harder to not fork over the cash and get one....

I know right??? I just got a benchmade bedlam and it kind of rekindled my like for benchmade. I really REALLY still dislike the axis lock, but it seems i might be able to live with it nowadays.

I bought 5 of these, two for my son, the other three for me. Everyone of them was perfect in all the things I look for in a folder. Just outstanding work from Benchmade. Now just waiting on the satin bladed 810 Contego, and may have to have a black plain edge to tide me over. From what I've read, the 810 is in the same league with the Adamas.

Razor, if you don't mind me asking, what is the dislike for the Axis lock?

If you want an adamas get one:D I have mine and it's thick, but I don't mind at all because it's the most solid feeling folder I've ever held, and I have held zero tolerances, emersons, cold steels, and many other benchmades. A word of advise is to get the black handled adamas, the cerekoat coating on the tan handled version comes off pretty easily (I know from experience with mine)

I thought the scales were made from g-10? Do they cerekoate the g10 or is the descriptions on sellers websites wrong? Thanks in advance for the clarification.

He means the cerekoate coating on the blade.

Ahhh....somehow I missed that in the specs. Thanks. All the models I found on a quick glance over say bk coated...rather than any on benchmades site saying cerakote, except for the fixed blade tan which just says coated. I was totally confused. So to clarify...the tan handled folders have cerakoate on the blade. The black handled versions use benchmade bk coating? Thanks for the clarification. Greatly appreciated.

Both of them have cerekote coating on the blade. The black handled one is pure black g10, but the tan handled is only tan because it has a tan cerekote on black g10. This is kinda cheap, I didn't know about it until it started coming off of my handle, but I'll probably take a fine grit sand paper and take all of the coating off since some of it is already gone. Another thing to mention is I haven't even used the knife that much, the coating has just weared off the handle from me clipping it to my pocket, carrying it, and taking it back out. And I've probably carried it less than 50 times too, because I usually carry my endura.

Coatings aside.... I F***ING BATONNED WITH THE THING. I was not even close to feeling as if it would fail for any reason. Seriously this thing is beast.

Doogoon is right. The knife is very solid, I've used it for prying (I know it's a folder, but it's a BEAST) and I've cut really thick hard plastic opening a package, and it felt completely solid. That is what makes this knife so special. I wouldn't even trust a zero tolerance near as much for some tasks, but that's just me.

The blade is bk coated, which is showing no wear for me now (but again I haven't cut very much thick stuff) but the tan handles are cerekoted.
