I got this knife from a sales post a few weeks ago and had really been looking forward to checking out some of Allen's newer work. The Kestrel is Allen's take on the Bird & Trout Knife, and I think it would definitely serve very well in that role. But I don't see it limited to that role at all. It has an overall length of 8 inches, and has a very point blade that is 3.75 inches in length. It has Osage handle scales with black liners and orange pinstripes which I like a lot. It is made of 154CM stainless, which was listed as 3/32...which is usually a little thin for me, but stainless always comes a little thicker and I suspected it would be close to 1/8 so I went for it and I was right. I could see this knife serving very well in food prep as well as a decent boning knife in game prep. It has a hollow grind, done on a 14 inch wheel, so not a deep hollow, which is great on the narrow blade which is 0.75 inches at the widest point.

I am really impressed with the work Allen is doing these days. He is doing an excellent job with his fit and finish, his handle symmetry on this one is spot on, and the handle contours offer great ergonomics and provide a secure purchase at the same time. I really enjoyed turning this one over and looking at it from all directions, and the following are some photos of that.

It came with a very sharp edge, it handles very well, and definitely has no problems helping with tinder prep.

Very cool initial review of the Kestrel. I really like B&T knives. Can't wait to see what you do with this knife. Really like the close ups in the hand pics. Well done Mist and Allen.

Thanks Preston. I am really liking this model a lot. Even though I would personally feel more comfortable doing so with a flat saber grind than a hollow, I can definitely see this knife performing well in a bushcraft role at need. I love the handle contours and ergonomics, and the blade profile and grind height are perfect for me.
