Was the Ontario SP5 born from the Marbles Trailmaker?

Looking at the Ontario SP5 blade length, thickness, and blade shape, it would almost seem that the SP5 is a no thrills Marbles Trailmaker.
My understanding is that Ontario made the Marbles Trailmaker versions under contract for James Parker when he was using the Marbles name for a few years. Ontario already having the set up for the blade shape and all, it would make sense for Ontario to offer it under their own name brand via their less costly SP series line. Anyhow, the SP5 sure does look like it's heritage is from the Marbles Trailmaker.
Anyone know if this is the case?

I don't know but the SP-5 is a great jack of all trades task doer blade from the stuff I've seen. Me I learned I don't like sharpen swedges much so I favor the SP-10. But you can't go wrong with the SP-5 for a choice. Its so popular, OKC brought it back from being Sun Setted! Now if they only did that to the SP-51...

I don't know either, but I agree that it looks exactly like the Marbles knife, less all the fancy stuff.

Actually, I reposted the question on the "Ask Toooj" section. He did come in and answer it for me. I'm sorry that I had not posted his response here earlier... But, here it is...

Yes. the SP-5 has very similar lines to the Trailmaker. We had experience making that pattern and we felt it was a good enough shape to include in the original Spec Plus line. It has done well over the years.
The steel for the SP-5 is now 1075. There is regrettably, sometimes an information lag on our and our vendor's websites.
Hope this helps.
